The Aliso Niguel Boys Baseball Team has been gaining more and more strength and confidence as their season progresses. The Wolverines have been doing great and have an overall season record of 10-3-1.
Since the Wolverines have such a great record throughout all their games, they have been ranked number 47 in California. With this ranking, the boys will be going against even better opponents than they have been going against, and it should serve as a great challenge for the Wolverines.
This ranking also shows how hard and well the Wolverines have been working throughout the season and the pre-season, all of this has been worth it because it puts Aliso Niguel in the top 50 baseball teams in California.
The boys baseball team has also officially started the season. The Wolverines are in the South Coast League which is a Division II league. Their other league opponents are Tesoro, Trabuco Hills, San Clemente and Dana Hills. Tesoro and Dana Hills are known for being rivals against Aliso Niguel, so stakes are high against both of these opponents and all the rest of the teams in the league.
League baseball games are also much more important than pre-season games because they matter the most when it comes to qualifying for CIF and for state standings and rankings. They also play each league opponent three times.
In their latest league match on March 25, they played against Tesoro, but unfortunately lost 2-1, which ended up putting Aliso Niguel in second place.
Varsity Catcher Colt Jackson (10) comments, “It was definitely a rough game for us last night knowing that we beat them before by a bigger score but one loss shouldn’t set the team back but I am excited to keep going for the rest of the season because I know we can actually do really well this season.”
For the next games, the Aliso Niguel Wolverines go up against Trabuco Hills and Capistrano Valley which all six games will be great challenges for the Wolverines.
The skilled players with the highest batting average are Hayden James (12), with a batting average of 0.484; Carson Etnire (12), with a batting average of 0.442; and finally, Will Jenican (12) with a batting average of 0.400.
Varsity Shortstop Kaito Nakamaru (10) comments, “For my first year on varsity, I think I’m playing pretty well as well as the team because we have been winning basically all of our games but that was preseason and now our team is getting ready to hopefully do better in league and maybe win this year.”
This Aliso Niguel team has been able to show immense skill and talent and a large amount of improvement throughout pre-season. With these, the Wolverines are at a great record of 10-3-1 and are overall second in the South Coast League and are on pace to finish a great season and qualify for CIF.
