As spring sports begin, this season the Aliso Niguel Boys Lacrosse team is starting off strong with numerous wins around the county under the guidance of Head Coach Henderson.
The Wolverines have secured key victories against several competitive opponents, including a dominant 15-4 win over San Clemente. They followed that performance with a 9-6 win against Canyon and continued their success with a 16-9 victory over Trabuco Hills. The team also earned wins over San Juan Hills (10-7), Santiago (10-4) and Tesoro (15-9), showcasing both offensive strength and defensive consistency.
Throughout the stretch, Aliso Niguel has demonstrated its ability to control the pace of games. The offense has been particularly effective, consistently putting up double-digit scoring performances while maintaining ball control and creating opportunities through quick passing and strong field awareness.
Sophomore attacker Charles Phelps credited the team’s success to the bond players have developed over the course of the season.
“I really enjoy the camaraderie with my teammates and being able to play lacrosse every day,” Phelps said.
“Over time, we’ve become really close, and that connection shows on the field. Coach Henderson is a big part of that because he constantly motivates us and pushes us to improve. One of my favorite moments is celebrating wins together, because it shows how all our hard work has paid off.”
That connection has translated directly into performance. Players have shown improved communication on both ends of the field, allowing the Wolverines to execute plays more efficiently and limit mistakes.
Defensively, the team has stepped up in key moments, holding opponents to single-digit scores in multiple games during the winning streak.
Coach Henderson said the team’s focus has been on growth and consistency rather than just results.
“Our goal is to improve every time we step on the field,” Henderson said, “The players have really bought into the idea of playing for each other, and that’s made a big difference. When we stay disciplined and trust one another, we’re able to compete at a high level.”
In addition to in-game performance, practices have played a crucial role in the team’s development. During 5th period, conditioning and stick skills have helped players refine their abilities and prepare for competitive matchups. Leadership from upperclassmen has also contributed to a positive and focused team environment.
As the season progresses, the Wolverines are looking to maintain their momentum and continue improving in league play. With a strong record and growing confidence, the team is positioning itself as a contender.
Beyond the scoreboard, players say the experience of competing together has been just as meaningful as the wins themselves. The combination of hard work, shared goals and team unity has created a foundation for continued success.
If Aliso Niguel can sustain its current level of play, the Wolverines have the potential to make a significant impact as the season moves forward.
