Aliso Niguel High School’s Boys Golf Team has begun their 2026-2027 season with one win but three unfortunate losses.
Aliso Niguel has faced off against San Clemente and Tesoro with both losses being against San Clemente where they scored 191to 182 and 204 to 197. The Wolverines next faced off against Tesoro with the first matchup ending in a loss of 199 to 195, but ultimately got their first win of the season; just days later against Tesoro once again for a final score of 214 to 206.
These wins and losses put Aliso Niguel in third place in the Sea View league for golf, trailing behind San Clemente and Tesoro.
The Varsity Golf Team next faces off against Mission Viejo High School, who have a 1-2 record, meaning that it is going to be a very evenly played match. The Mission Viejo Diablos also played against Tesoro and left with a win and a loss, the same as the Wolverines.
The Aliso Niguel Golf Team is ready to go against Mission Viejo as they have had practice almost every day for the past week.
A member of the golf team, Jonah Hiner (10), comments, “It has been a bit of a rough start because I know we could’ve done way better against San Clemente and we honestly could’ve beat Tesoro the first time we went up against them, but we just have to shift our focus for the next upcoming matches and for the rest of the season.”
The boys golf team, led by Mr. Turney, has been preparing for their next matches as they go up against Mission Viejo, Capistrano Valley and league rivals Dana Hills. The boys will be playing in their home golf course which gives them a great advantage to put up great scores against these really good and prepared schools.
Aliso Niguel being in CIF Southern Section’s Division I league, they have a great chance at beating other teams in lower divisions as well as going up and getting great scores against other teams inside of their division.
Varsity Member of the Golf Team, JJ Coachman (10), states, “I have high hopes and expectations for myself personally but as well as the team because I hope we can all do really good this season and possibly even win league but all I am hoping for is for me to play at my best as well as the rest of the team.”
As the season progresses, only time will tell how the league will play on and how the boys golf team will finish off their season. But for now, practices and upcoming games are going to be the real test about how the team will be able to do, because if they do well in these next matches, it will set them up for a great run throughout the season.
Although the Aliso Niguel Boys Golf Team has had some early struggles and losses, it is still the beginning of the season, so there is no reason to count them out. The Wolverines still have many more matches to tee off which means they can easily turn their schedule around.
