Aliso Niguel’s Girls Track team has been sailing smoothly through their season. As they hoped for during their off-season, spring is looking strong for them. The team started off their season at Santa Margarita Catholic High School on Feb. 21.
The girls track team scored many wins and close wins during their first meet. This includes earning first place in shot put and discus thanks to Jaslene Massey (12). Additionally, the team placed second for the 4×100 relay with athletes Sakai Moreau (10), Bella Fenick (11), Cambria Kaminski (12) and Emma Cox (11), and placed third in the 4×800 relay with Camila Abarca (12), Aubrey Fletcher (12), Aubrey Jones (12) and Nadia Bonfanti (10).
The second meet of their season took place at Aliso Niguel High School on March 4, 2026. Aliso Niguel and Capo Valley High School participated in the meet.
This meet brought forth many first places. Aliso Niguel achieved first place for the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 800 meter dash, 1600 meter dash, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay, high jump, pole vault and long jump.
“It felt really good to see everyone doing so well and to show everyone what I have been practicing,” comments Paige Wilson (10), who got third place for the pole vault category. “I’m really excited to see how much we improve going forward in the season because we are already off to a great start.”
Some goals the girls have for the season are to power through as a team and give it their all for every meet while also having fun on the field. They are also currently working hard to achieve their goal of making it to the CIF state championship, and hopefully place first in the events that take place there. Based on the progress that they have made so far in the season, this is a likely possibility for them.
The girls track team at Aliso Niguel High School has practice Monday through Friday after school and during sixth period, alongside the boys track team. Head Coach Lusar, along with the other coaches, and Andrew Mashburn make sure they are observing and helping out the team to further their progress not only in skill, but for team morale as well.
They practice hard for their respective events, whether it’s out on the field with their fellow teammates or training in the weight room.
Wilson says, “It’s true that off-season is a really crucial time, but practice during actual season is just as important because at least for me, all the practice makes me feel ready and more comfortable during meets because it sort of becomes like muscle memory.”
The next track meet for the team will occur at Notre Dame High School on March 7, titled “John Godina Thrower’s Invitational.”
The ANHS girls track team has about ten more meets before their season comes to an end, and it will be fun to see all their hard work pay off as they pass each hurdle and dash toward the finish line.
