The Wolverine cheer team made school history this season, earning first place at the national cheerleading competition and bringing home a championship title after months of intense preparation and teamwork.
Competing against some of the best teams across numerous different places, the Wolverines delivered a near-flawless routine that showcased strong stunts, precise tumbling and high energy from beginning to end. Their performance impressed judges and spectators alike, ultimately securing the team the top spot in their division.
Leading up to nationals, the team spent countless hours practicing after school and on weekends. According to members of the squad, the preparation required not only physical endurance but also mental focus and trust among teammates.
“The moment they announced that we had won was honestly unreal,” said Sofia Momoca (12), who has been on the cheer team for four years. “We’ve put so much time into perfecting our routine and supporting each other, so hearing our schools name called for first place made everything worth it. It felt like all the hard work finally paid off”.
The team’s routine was the result of months of planning and repetition, with athletes working to sharpen every movement and stunt. Coaches emphasized consistency, safety and performance quality as the team prepared for the national stage.
Throughout the season, the Wolverines competed in several regional competitions, steadily improving their routine and building confidence with each performance. By the time nationals arrived, the team felt ready to perform at their best.
For many seniors on the team, the championship carried special meaning as it marked the final season of their high school cheer careers.
“This win means everything to me,” said senior Trinity Mathews. “Being able to end my last season with this team by winning nationals is something I’ll never forget. We’ve grown so much together, and the bond we built through all the practices and competitions is really what made this moment so special”
Beyond the trophy, team members say the experience taught them valuable lessons about perseverance and teamwork. Every athlete on the team played a role in the victory, from those performing the most difficult stunts to those supporting behind the scenes.
The win also reflects the continued growth of the school’s cheer program. Over the past few years, the team has worked to build a strong reputation for discipline, skill and school spirit.
With the national championship now added to the program’s accomplishments, the Wolverines have set a new standard for future teams to strive toward.
Although the season has come to an end, the impact of the victory will likely be felt for years to come. For the seniors graduating, the championship serves as a memorable way to close out their time on the squad.
As the team celebrates its achievement, the Wolverines hope their success will inspire younger athletes to continue pushing the program forward in seasons to come.
