Aliso’s girls basketball is going strong this season as they wrapped up senior night on Feb. 3.
They have an overall score of 17 wins and 11 loses and their league score is 2 wins and 6 loses; they are fourth in the South Coast league.
After the teams senior night, as it was their last game they are in the wild card to go to playoffs. Throughout the season the girls basketball team has been working tirelessly to improve their skills and work together as a team. As the team nears the end of their season they still remain determined to finish off the season strong.
When asked how she stays motivated to keep pushing through the season Camryn Halsell (10), a varsity player says, “My teammates, just being there for them and not giving up because I know they wouldn’t give up on me.”
As the underclass men celebrate their seniors on senior night they are reminded to continue to work hard towards their goals on the team.
Gabby Garcia (10), a player says, “They’re a good example to look up to. They’re always pushing hard and trying their best.”
The senior night truly motivated the girls basketball team as Garcia adds, “It gave us something to look forward to for our senior night.”
While always working hard the teams have had their fair share of fun moments together ranging from team trips to simply bringing the fun and positive energy to practice.
Halsell says, “Steph on our team, she has a lot of positive energy and really funny energy. If it is a really hard practice with a lot of running she really brings the energy up.”
The team always tries to remain positive during their drills to build their bonds as a team and to overall enjoy their sport.
Halsell said, “I’m proud of everyone’s improvement. I think we have come a long way since our first practice and I feel like everyone has improved in their shooting and dribbling. I think that overall our attitudes are much more positive now.”
While the team loves to have fun they are also constantly working on their skills on and off the court. The team has taken great inspiration from their seniors and their team captains.
Garcia says, “The team captains are really good at mandating arguments we may have and they are very good at knowing what we need to do in a game as well.”
The captains Camille Miller and Sofi Vaka have left a lasting impact on their fellow teammates and underclass men who are getting truly inspired by their leadership.
When asked how being part of the team has impacted her, Halsell says, “It has impacted my overall view. I am always happy being around my teammates and I feel like they really support me when I am going through a rough day. Whenever we don’t make a shot during practice or during a game they’re always there telling us it’s okay.”
So that the team continues to show their excellence throughout their season they always make sure to support each other.
Garcia says, “Usually, after games we go in a circle and say one thing we did good and one thing another person did good. I think that’s how we stay supported.”
As the season comes to an end, Aliso’s girls basketball team is striving towards bringing the same energy and determination in their season to come.
