The Aliso Niguel Boys Wrestling team officially started off their campaign starting back in early November and are now ready to start their season off. They started with a match against Anaheim, where the Wolverines showed a very dominant performance and ended up winning 71-6 after a very difficult match.
The team started off a great run during preseason starting 3-0 winning duels and tournaments against Anaheim, a tournament win against John W. North High School where the score was 42-36, and Orange High School, where Aliso Niguel won 68-9.
Their next matches after these were against La Modena, Trabuco Hills and Dana Hills. Trabuco Hills controlled every match and ended up winning 25-45 and La Modena also beat Aliso Niguel which resulted in a 32-43 loss. However, the team had a comeback against Dana Hills.
Both of these losses were able to help influence the boys wrestling team and encourage them to do better. Aliso Niguel won 66-6 and completely dominated every match against Dana Hills over a very well deserved victory.
Varsity Wrestler Shayan Hariri (10), comments, “Being my second year on varsity, and overall my second year wrestling in general, I was able to learn so quick, just through practices and a lot of hard work and fitness that our coach makes us do.”
Wrestling practices are not easy. The boys have to go through very intense training and fitness so that the body can be in shape; many wrestlers have to be on a very strict diet because they need to wrestle in their weight class, so they must maintain many different elements throughout the body.
Many people think that wrestling might be easy, but the mindset and dedication that the wrestlers have is key to many successful wrestlers and overall wrestling teams in general.
Varsity Wrestler Kyle Iwohara (10 ) mentioned that, “I have to watch what I eat throughout countless days just to be able to weigh in and be able to wrestle my weight class.”
Going back to the more recent duels against El Toro and San Clemente, which are some of the most crucial and important matchups for the Aliso Niguel Boys Wrestling Team. In these matches, Aliso Niguel won 54-24 against El Toro. However, the team was less fortunate against San Clemente and they ended up losing 24-51, which marked their record being a total of five wins and three losses for the Wolverines.
The Aliso Niguel has an upcoming tournament on Jan. 24 and the matchups are yet to be determined but Aliso Niguel are going to be ready after long weeks of practice so hopefully the Aliso Niguel Boys Wrestling team is able to do well and be able to come out with a win.
