Aliso Niguel Girls’ Water Polo continues league play this year, holding its flawless record of 5-0. On Thursday, January 15th, they beat Tesoro 13-5, holding onto their first-place spot in the league.
Aliso Niguel Girls’ Water Polo is currently Division IV in the Sea View League. Beyond league play, the season record is 15-4. In the state, they are ranked at 56 out of hundreds of other schools. Their strong position has led them to be a top contender in the Sea View League and potentially CIF this season.
Varsity player Ashlin Prestridge (11) says, “I think we have got Tesoro beat because they are ranked much lower than us”. The hard work of the Aliso girls has given them a higher ranking, giving them confidence to perform well in games. Players credit their preparation and teamwork as the main cause of their victories.
The recent Tesoro game was the ASB game of the week, where many people went to show school spirit. The stands cheered as Aliso scored many goals to keep their undefeated record alive. Energetic crowds create a competitive atmosphere and aid the team to victory.
Tiger Lilee Flores (11), a super fan of Girls Water Polo, says, “I love watching the games because I have so many friends on the team, and I love motivating them to do well in their games”. Student support has played an important role in boosting team morale.
Prestridge also says, “We did really well against Mission Viejo’s team. The final score was 10-4”. This win further demonstrates the team’s ability to compete against strong opponents.
Elisha Ng (12) says, “This season has actually been really good. Initially, it was a bit tough since we lost a ton of seniors, but our team quickly adapted”. Many of the starting players graduated in 2025, but the team was able to strengthen their dynamics in time for league play. Ng believes it’s the main reason they have been able to perform so well in these recent games.
Outside of games, Ng says, “practices have been pretty rigorous. We practice every day after school, either in the pool or weight rooms”. Players have sometimes felt burnt out from the demanding schedule of the team, but they understand that it makes them so strong when it comes to playing.
As the season continues, the team remains focused on maintaining their momentum and finishing league play strong. Coaches emphasize strong communication in the pool and maintaining intensity throughout all four quarters of the games.
With many league games still left, it is important that the team remains humble but determined to hold their undefeated record and climb the state rankings.
Aliso Niguel Girls’ Water Polo hopes to carry this momentum into the remainder of the season. With strong team chemistry, long but rewarding practices, and consistent support from fans, the program continues to succeed. As the playoffs come closer, the team is set on holding their high ranking and strong profile.
