As the boys volleyball season gets closer, the Aliso Niguel High School team has started preseason training and preparation. Players are back in the gym working on skills, conditioning, and team chemistry. Practices have been active and competitive as the team begins getting ready for the spring season.
The preseason is an important time for the athletes. It gives players a chance to get back into volleyball shape and get used to playing together again. With returning players and some new faces, the team is focused on improving communication and learning how to work as a group. Coaches have been running drills that focus on passing, serving, and game situations to help the team get ready for matches.
John Bender (11) shared what the team is hoping to accomplish this season, saying, “We are looking to come first in our league and make it to CIF under our new coaching staff.”
Bender’s goals demonstrate that the team is aiming high this year. League games are always competitive, and earning a spot in CIF is something the team has been working toward. Players have talked a lot during practice about staying consistent and playing with confidence once the season starts.
Tej Patel (12) is heading into his final year on the team and shared what he is most focused on.
Patel said, “My goals are to have fun with the guys since it’s my last year, and make CIF.”
For the seniors, this season means more than just wins and losses. It is their last chance to play high school volleyball together. Because of that, they have been pushing themselves in practice while also making sure to enjoy the experience. The seniors have also been helping younger players by giving advice and setting a good example.
Kourosh Zarif (11) said, “I’m excited to keep getting better and see how far we can go as a team this year.”
Zarif’s thoughts match what many players have been saying during preseason. The team knows there is still work to do, but they are motivated to improve. Players have been focusing on fixing small mistakes and staying locked in during drills. The coaches have stressed effort and focus every day at practice.
Team chemistry has also been a big part of their preseason. Players support each other during tough drills and help keep energy up in the gym. The team spends a lot of time working together, which has helped build trust on and off the court. That chemistry could be important once the season begins and games become more intense.
As the in-league season approaches, the Aliso Niguel boys volleyball team is feeling confident about the work they have put in so far. With clear goals, strong leadership, and a focus on improvement, the Wolverines are ready to take on the season. Whether it is competing in league, pushing for CIF or just playing together one more year, the team is looking forward to what is ahead.
