Aliso Niguel High School Girls’ Water Polo is off to a great start in their winter season, earning back to back victories and building momentum as league play progresses. The girls have shown consistent improvement and effort throughout the season, putting them in strong standing to finish as a top contender in league.
Ashlin Prestridge (11), a varsity player, says that “season has been really good, we are currently 10-1. We just beat Yorba Linda.” In that match, the final score was 7-5 for the varsity girls and 20-2 for the junior varsity team. Their intense spirit and constant training is what has made them so victorious this season.
The team practices many days every week, sometimes even in the early hours of the morning just to get a few extra reps in. The players understand that the schedule is intense, but it is attributed to a majority of their success in the game.
Tiger Lilee Flores (11) went to the recent home game against x and watched the Aliso Niguel girls fight to keep their winning streak alive.
She says “My favorite thing about watching the team is how much you can see their work has paid off.” Many students and parents go to these exciting games to watch as the team never gives up. Flores’ spirit is shared among the stands as people cheer when the team scores.
Home games have drawn increasingly large crowds, creating a high-energy atmosphere around the pool deck. Parents, classmates and teachers often arrive early to secure a spot, and the noise level increases with every goal. Players say the support boosts their confidence, especially during close games.
Bella Peiffer (11), a varsity player, says “We did really good tonight against University. The final score was 16-4, and I’m so proud that my team has kept our winning streak alive.” This keeps their record as 10-1 in league. Peiffer adds “I think we win a lot of the time because of our team spirit.”
Much of the team’s momentum has also been attributed to strong leadership from upperclassmen. Juniors and seniors have taken on increased responsibilities this season, helping guide newer players through drills and game-day routines. Younger players have praised the welcoming environment, saying it motivates them to work harder.
With league play underway, the Wolverines are preparing for several challenging matchups in the coming weeks. Players say they are eager for the competition and hope to extend their winning streak heading into postseason tournaments. A strong finish could position the team for one of its best seasons in recent years.
The girls’ water polo program at Aliso Niguel has grown steadily over the past few years, with increased interest at both the JV and varsity levels. Coaches have emphasized long-term player development, hoping to build a team capable of consistently contending for league titles. As the winter season progresses, the Wolverines remain focused on maintaining their pace and continuing to raise the standard for future Aliso teams.
