The Aliso Niguel Boys Basketball team started their season off on Nov. 18 with a loss against Etiwanda High School.
The game started at 5 pm and ended with Aliso at 46 and Etiwanda at 55. Key players for Aliso were Jayden Mysin (12) with 17 points, Jaymasen Keys (12) with 15 and Collin Tjin (11) with eight.
Just a day later on Nov. 19 they played away against Ayala High School at 8 pm. The boys unfortunately lost with a close score of 73 to 72.
Mysin scored an astonishing 27 points while Keys trailed behind at 20.
Their next game was played on the 21 against Diamond Bar with a much needed blowout win scoring 80-58. Keys had 21 points with 10 rebounds, Mysin with 19 points, Wyatt Richmond (11) with ten and Tjin at ten assists.
Mysin comments, “We are learning to be there for each other through the highs and lows so far in our season”.
Nov. 24, Aliso wins another game against Lakewood High School at 70 to 50, bringing their record two even. Mysin scored 23, Keys at 19 and Maverick Smith (10) at 13.
Nov. 26 Aliso wins another game, this time against Foothill Highschool with 56 points against their 42. Mysin scored 23, Tjin at 11, Keys with 10 and Henry Coulston (11) at 7.
Nov. 29 they played against Cypress, losing 54-66, now with a 3 all record. Richmond scored 17, Tjin with 15 and Mysin at 11.
Thanksgiving week was the Blue Pride Tournament where Aliso was matched up against Pico Rivera. They lost 65-58, Mysin with 31 and Richmond with 14.
Senior night was on Dec. 2, with a win over Northwood 70-44. Keys scored 19, Mysin with 17 and Tjin at 12. The day after was the El Rancho Tournament against St. Bonaventure.
Aliso wins round 2 of the El Rancho Tournament with over 43 points against St. Bonaventure at 68 to 25. Mysin at 16, Richmond with 14, Keys at 11 and Josh Shihad (11) with 11.
Evan Joseph (12) says, “Our team’s off to a solid start this season, some games could have gone smoother but we’re playing well and looking forward to league and making a push towards CIF.”
Aliso has 17 more games left in the season which ends on Feb. 2. Their most recent games were on Dec. 5 against Portola, on the ninth against Irvine, 16 against Tesoro and Laguna Beach on the 19.
To end off Dec. Aliso will play against San Clemente, Bingham, Liberty and Tennyson.
In January they will play eight more games against Mission Viejo, Beckman Trabuco Hills and El Toro. On Jan. 23 they will replay Mission, Jan. 24 against Dos Pueblos, Jan. 26 against Beckman and at the end of January play Beckman.
To finish off their season they will play against El Toro on Feb. 2 to end their regular season. With hopes that Aliso will win the League they are also looking forward to competing in CIF and eventually win.
