Nov. 7 the Aliso Boys Water Polo lost their Quarterfinals CIF Division two game against Redondo Union.
A highly anticipated game played in Redondo Beach where unfortunately Redondo scored 12 against Aliso’s seven.
Tyler Bird (12) comments, “This was the most intense game I’ve played in my life. If we lost then it would mean that my senior season is over. Though you can’t win them all, I would like to say that my high school career was everything I could have asked for”.
But before their quarter finals game they played their round 1 game against Dana Hills where the boys went into double overtime. Luckily the boys scored three points and finished it off 16 to Dana’s 13.
Jaden Prestridge (12) says, “This game was so close but luckily we were able to pull through. I’m excited that we are able to move to round 2”.
With this win they moved onto round 2 against Ventura who have proven themselves to be a strong opponent.
The game was played on Nov. 4 at Aliso where the score went back and forth through all four quarters. At the end of the fourth Aliso was able to break away from the tie of 9 to 9 and finished it off with 10 goals.
This allowed Aliso to move into the quarterfinals against Redondo who they unfortunately lost to.
Leading up to CIF Aliso played five games in Oct., with their first game against Trabuco Hills on the seventh. Aliso with their strong track record against Trubuco easily defeated them with a final score of 19 to 11.
On the ninth the boys played San Clemente who they struggled with and lost 11 to 7.
Oct. 14 was against San Juan Hills High School who they lost to in Sept.. After a long back and forth match San Juan started pulling ahead and finished the game off with 14 while Aliso had 9.
The second to last game before CIF round 1 was against Beckman and unfortunately the boys took a loss of 7 to 9.
Just nine days before their first round of CIF against Dana Hills, they matched up with them in league for a pre-CIF game. This game was played on Oct. 21, a very close game but Also was able to pull ahead by one point in the fourth quarter ending it 11 to 10.
With the win against Dana the Aliso boys had high hopes for the first round of CIF. Since the boys had already defeated Dana they knew how to beat them.
Sammy Zeitawi (12) comments, “High school water polo went by so fast, I wish we could have advanced further into CIF. I’m going to really miss everything about it”.
Though it was unfortunate that Aliso lost in their third round of CIF they had an amazing run placing fourth in the South Coast league and having a 17 to 11 win to loss ratio. This also allowed Aliso to be ranked number 87 nationally and number 71 in California.
