The Aliso Niguel Surf team had their most recent match on Nov. 5 against Laguna Beach High School unfortunately lost.
For the boys, Aliso had 37 points while Laguna Beach had 52
The Aliso Girls had 13 points to Laguna Beach’s 26.
The match started at seven in the morning at Salt Creek with Heat 1 of shortboard with Malakai Moningka (10) in third scoring four points and Monte Goldstein (9) in fourth for two points.
In heat two Madelyn Chao (12) competed in the Shortboard placing third for four points.
Heat three shortboard was Guarin Bruni (12) in third for four points and Luke Schieber in fourth for two points. Heat four Zeke Gonzalez (12) placed first, Drew Gerlach (12) in third and Weston Maxon (12) in fourth for a combined 13 points.
Heat five Chao placed second, Nicole Fortuna (10) in fourth, and Camille McKeon (12) in sixth for a total of 9 points.
Heat six and seven are Boys Shortboard where Ruder Demichele (9) places third with Maxon in fourth and Gonzalez in third with Porter Ellsworth (12) in fourth respectively. They scored a combined 12 points.
Ellsworth says, “I hope to win league this year and make it to finals”.
Oct. 22 they matched up against Capo Valley High School at Salt Creek. Heat one was boys shortboard with Moningka, Joaquin Esparza (11) and Schieber scoring 14 points.
Heat two boys shortboard, DeMichele, Ellsworth and Goldstein scoring 15 points. Heat three girls shortboard, Chao and Fortuna scored a combined 8 points.
Heat four boys longboard, Moningka, Gerlach and Dylan Janivicius (12) scored 14. Heat 5 girls longboard, Chao, McKeon and Fortuna score 10.
The Aliso boys defeated Capo Valley with 43 points against their 19 while the Aliso girls lost 18 to 23.
Oct. 29 Aliso matched up against San Clemente, starting Heat 1 Gonzalez and Schieber scored 6 points. Heat 2 Chao, Fortuna and McKeon score another 6.
Heat 3 DeMichele and Maverick Turner (12) score 7. Heat 4, Gonzalez, Maxon and Moningka took 9 points.
Heat 5 Chao and Fortuna bring home 7 while in Heat 6 Bruni and Maxon score 6 points.
Both Aliso boys and girls unfortunately lost this match with the boys scoring 28 to 44 and girls 13 to 26.
Chao comments, “I’m looking forward to this season and am hoping that the whole team will do well especially because the majority are seniors so it’s our last year”.
The team’s match right before their Laguna Beach was against Dana Hills on Oct. 30. Heat 1 started off with Maxon and Schieber scoring 7.
Heat 2 Chao and McKeon score 6 and in Heat 3 DeMichele and Goldstein score 8. Heat 4 and 5 Gerlach, Janavicius and Gonzalez score 8 while Chao, Fortuna and McKeon score 11 respectively. Heat 6 Ellsworth and Turner scored 6 while in heat 7 Bruni and Gonzalez scored 7.
Heat 8 Ian Huber (11) and Esparza scored 7. The final scores were Aliso boys 43 to Dana’s 63 and the Girls 17 to Dana’s 23.
Unfortunately the Aliso team took many losses in their most recent matches but there is still time to bounce back for their finals
