After many grueling matches, our Aliso Niguel Girls’ Tennis season has come to an end in a loss against Chadwick in CIF-SS Playoffs Round 2 on Nov. 7. They were crowned league champions after their victory against Capistrano Valley Girls’ Tennis.
The CIF Southern Section (California Interscholastic Federation) is the governing body for high school sports in the region, organizing postseason tournaments where top teams from each league compete for a championship title. Advancing through CIF rounds is a major accomplishment, as schools face some of the strongest teams in Southern California.
The tennis season spanned from August to early November. The girls’ effort is proven through their long winning streaks and qualifications to participate in CIF-SS Playoffs. In the first round of playoffs, the Wolverines competed against Newport Harbor on Nov. 5, and their victory pushed them further into the playoffs. Although the girls lost to Chadwick, their grit and hard work are shown in how far they progressed through the season.
From long after school practices in the intense heat to late-night team bonding, there weren’t many moments these girls weren’t putting some form of dedication into the team. These determined qualities in these girls are what allow them to continue winning many matches.
Trudy Shen (10) has been playing tennis ever since she could walk.
She says, “It is so incredible to be on such a great team.” The Aliso Girls’ Tennis team is one of many on campus where players feel so connected to one another.
Shen said, “It’s the sixth year we’ve won league, but I am so sad to see that season is over.”
Many players felt the same way as Shen, a bittersweet feeling of joy. Although their season has wrapped, they will definitely continue to bond off the tennis courts. The girls supported each other through long practices and competitive matches, forming friendships that go beyond tennis.
Estelle Luu (9) said, “I enjoyed being on the team this season. I made so many memories, and finishing first in the league was such an achievement.” Luu is a freshman, and she really loved her first season playing.
Head Coach Jeff has played a major role in shaping the team’s success, pushing discipline, teamwork, and mental strength. Under his leadership, Aliso Niguel has built a foundation of consistency and excellence both in league play and postseason competition.
The Wolverines’ success in CIF highlights the strength of the team and the dedication of both players and coaches. Each girl put in hours of practice throughout the fall, balancing busy schedules and tough competition. Their performance in CIF not only reflects their athletic talent but also their teamwork and sportsmanship.
Support from classmates, parents, and staff also built the team’s energy this season. Many came out to home matches to cheer on the Wolverines, creating a supportive environment that made every victory even more meaningful.
Although this year’s playoff run came to an end in Round 2, the experience has only motivated the team for next season. With several returning players and a roster of talent, Aliso Niguel Girls’ Tennis looks forward to building on its success and making an even stronger push in its 2026 season.
