Track and Field Overview

Track and Field has been very busy this Spring Season. They began their season on Presidents Weekend, at the end of February. Then, they had their first non-league meet against Capo Valley Highschool at home on Mar. 2. It was a good warmup and practice for all the teams to get back into the swing of it.

The head coaches once again for Track and Field this year are Danny Werner for the boys and Patricia Lusar for the girls. Both coaches have been at Aliso Niguel for quite some time now and are very experienced at handling the program.

This year, Aliso Niguel Track and Field competes in the South Coast League, which is one of the most competitive leagues around. The league consists of Aliso Niguel High school, Trabuco Hills Highschool, Dana Hills Highschool, and Mission Viejo High school. Recently, Aliso had a meet against Dana Hills on Wednesday, Mar. 16th and then against Mission Viejo on Wednesday, Mar. 30.  They then went up against Trabuco at home on Wednesday, Apr. 20.

Prelims and finals for the league are coming up on Tuesday, Apr. 26, and Friday, Apr. 29th. These will both be hosted at Trabuco Hills High School. Prelims will have most of the track and field members at the meet. Finals will be a more selected group of individuals from Aliso Niguel, depending on how well they performed in their specific group.

Vedika Nakim (11), is currently enjoying her second year competing for track and field on Varsity. She explains “I run the 200 and the 400. My favorite is the 200 because it goes by super quickly, for the 400 you need a lot of endurance as well. I enjoy being out on the track every day and I am so thankful for the experience.”
