Girl’s Swim Begins Preseason

Girl’s Swim is excited to start off their season this year. They began training at the beginning of February this 2022 school year, with practices before and after. The head coach is Mr. Cox, who also teaches sophomore English classes.

Practice started at the beginning of February for the girls, with morning practices and afternoon practices. Simel Flores (11), who is a member of the swim team for a third year in a row, explains “I started swimming again around two weeks ago and it has been challenging to wake up early and dedicate so much time to practice early in the season. There was definitely a shift in my mindset and routine, but it feels good to work hard and push myself.”

The girls are currently training for their upcoming Black and Teal Meet which will take place on Thursday, Feb. 24. It is an intersquad meet, which means both girls and boys swim coaches created mixed teams to compete against each other.

Simel Flores (11) explains, “It is a fun way to start off the season and ease our way back into meets”.

The first meet for the girls is not until Thursday, Mar. 10 against Huntington Beach. Kasey Miller (9), who is a new asset to the team this year, explains “I”m looking forward to the season. All the girls are so sweet and welcoming and I have already made a lot of close friends. It’s a lot of practicing but I think it’s worth it”.

The girls look forward to their season. They are hopeful and confident that they will do well as a team, and individually.
