Mrs. Tinker is a dedicated educator who teaches Algebra II and AP Statistics. She also teaches AVID for sophomores. She creates an educational environment that is filled with support and encouragement and her teaching methods make every student feel included in the learning experience.
Mrs. Tinker goes above and beyond in order to help her students understand the subject. She promotes critical thinking and teamwork while working on difficult problems in class. The comforting trust in her classroom gives students a chance to feel completely at ease when learning about new topics.
Although algebra may be difficult for some students, Mrs. Tinker has monthly review sessions during Wolverine plus. She does the same thing for AP Statistics and ensures that every student fully comprehends what is being taught in classes.
Marina Miyata (11) says “Mrs. Tinker teaches step by step, like a tutorial. She lets us do some problems on our own when we finish writing down our notes so that we can be prepared for quizzes and tests beforehand. She often puts us into random groups to solve problems as a team, allowing us to have academic conversations by sharing our ideas with everybody in the class.
When I ask for help, Mrs. Tinker answers my questions in clear and thorough detail while also asking me some questions throughout the problem in order to let me get the right answer on my own instead of just telling me what the correct answer is. She puts in so much effort every day for her students.”
Mrs. Tinker says “I teach Algebra II, AP Statistics, and AVID 10. I am the head coach of beach volleyball and I am the assistant activities director. I like to build professional relationships with my students so that I can find the best ways to support them, and provide them with time to work independently during class.
A fond memory that I have is when I saw a student in passing and she told me that my math class was the easiest math class for her to understand. Another fond memory that I have was when two of my old students came back to say hello during their college break and told me that they thought that our class was very fun and now that they are in college, they continue to find joy in reminding each other of all of the quotes around my room to when things get hard.”
Teachers play a very important role in the lives of young adults. They are there for educational purposes but they can also contribute to a student’s mental health. As Mrs. Tinker works hard to assist her students onto the right academic path, her students will always remember and appreciate her efforts that have made this school a better place.
