Many students at Aliso Niguel High School need volunteer hours for CSF or to receive the Teal Town Cares award.
Aliso Niguel Laguna Beach Daycamp (ANLB) is an amazing opportunity for young women to not only receive volunteer hours, but also improve their leadership skills.
The Daycamp is a weeklong from eight in the morning to three thirty in the afternoon, allowing for around 40 and a half volunteer hours to be collected during the week. As well as the two camp aide trainings where an additional one and a half hours can be gained.
The week is Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19, at Niguel Hills Middle School.
The camp is technically a Girl Scout camp, so only girls may participate, however the Girl Scout program is so amazing and friendly, and so it makes the environment very fun.
The camp costs $70 with a $20 late fee for sign up’s submitted after 3/18, and an additional fee for if you are not a current Girl Scout. You do not need to be in a Girl Scout troop to participate in the camp.
While the camp does cost quite a bit, it includes learning STEM skills, culinary arts, life skills, crafts, games, badge completion, a camp T-shirt and a provided camp lunch on Friday.
An added bonus is the camp aid party at Doheny Beach which provides food and fun activities for the camp aids.
“I love this camp because it is just so much fun and I get so many volunteer hours that help me out with school,” says Yasmeen Aossey, a camp counselor and committee member for four years.
Participants from grades seven through twelve will be considered youth staff. They will be in charge of managing a group of young girls that are in elementary school.
As group managing is not a comfortable skill for everyone there are also several other jobs. Such as running a station: Games, cooking, crafts or STEM.
Group leaders will be assigned what is known as a ‘Unit’ which will have a specific name based on the camp theme that year. They will manage a group of eight to 15 girls and guide them through all of the activities that they do each day.
Station runners will manage each station and teach the activities every day to each of the units.
ANLB Daycamp is run by Karin Campbell who has been part of the Girl Scout program for a very long time with her daughter, additionally she has been running the camp for several years.
“I like camp because I get to work with people my age to plan and execute a program that younger girls enjoy,” said Reese Spearman, a camp committee member.
The camp name for 2026 is “Camp Ever After,” which follows the overall fairytale theme. All of the themes and activities are planned and created by the ANLB Camp Committee who has been working since October to make camp as fun as possible.
Anyone interested in camp may contact [email protected] with any questions. However it must be noted that signups need to be submitted as soon as possible, as spots fill up quickly!
Once again ANLB Daycamp is an amazing opportunity to gain volunteer hours and have something extra to put on college applications. Also it is a fantastic way to improve leadership skills as well as have fun.
