The Aliso Niguel’s Boys Golf team has done very well this season as the players have skill as well as dedication to the sport. The team ranked with a very impressive 12-3 win percentage during the season and are going to go to the 2024 CIF Championship.
Recently, the team played against Capo Valley High School where the team truly showed their use of teamwork and a supportive environment. With steaks high and pressure evident, Aliso Niguel’s team found themselves in a difficult situation.
“When the first three groups were done, we were down a few strokes but then the last group played super well and edged a victory,” remarks player Austyn Le (10).
This not only scored the team a triumph ending with 201-202 in the scorecards, but also helped the team to secure a spot in the ranks of the Co-League Championships.
The team’s dynamic has grown stronger this year as they fostered a very close bond as the season progressed. This partnership between teammates extends beyond the golf course as teammates have forged strong relationships with each other. The team bonded together after a match at El Niguel, where conversation and bonding was shared over tacos, showing how the team truly cares about keeping a united environment throughout the season.
As the season progresses, the team finds themselves preparing for the upcoming CIF tournament. While being in the third division, the team has demonstrated an improvement in their consistency and resilience as opposed to how they played during last year’s season. The team has a commendable 5-1 record in the league as of this year.
In the pursuit of excellence and players with the potential to be great, the team offers advice to newcomers and incoming freshmen who find themselves wanting to try out for Aliso’s golf team next year.
Le says “Practice, practice and practice. The best thing you can do for your game is to practice before you go on the course so that when you play, you feel more confident and your game will improve dramatically.”
Player Wyatt Dalby (10) adds, “I would say to incoming freshmen, give it your best shot and do not be nervous. Just make sure you practice to improve your performance.”
Led by coaches Turney and Westling, the players have been able to develop their skills to help them when playing on the course. During practices the players emphasized how much the coaches have truly helped them. They play a pivotal role in the teams overall success from addressing individual players’ concerns to shaping the teams dynamic and mindset.
Dalby provided insight, praising, “My coaches are very fun to go out on the course and play with, they have been super supportive and motivating.”
As the team advances to CIF they continue to grow in terms of their skills and overall team bond. It is important to recognize they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
