Spring Break begins on Friday, April 3, and students at Aliso have varying plans on how they are going to spend their week.
Many students are traveling within or outside of the country, while others are just staying near their homes.
Sanaa Rishi (11) says, “Over spring break, I’m going to Toronto, and I am also going to New York/Canada to see Niagara Falls.”
Sarina Zafra (11) says, “I am going to be going to New York with the school orchestra, because we will be performing in Carnegie Hall…I am really excited to be in New York City again, because I used to live there.”
Aliso Niguel’s Orchestra leaves for New York on Thursday, April 3, and returns the following Tuesday, April 7.
Lilian Smith (11) says, “I am going to spend my spring break in Santa Barbara with my parents.”
Eden Estavez (11) says, “My plans for spring break this year are to go to New York for a couple days and tour colleges…I am really excited.”
Estavez says she will be touring Columbia, Fordham and NYU. As a junior, with college admissions approaching this fall, deciding which colleges to apply to can be difficult. Touring various colleges provides juniors with an idea of what they want their college experience to be like.
On the other hand, with college decisions recently coming out, many seniors plan to visit colleges to which they have been admitted in order to make informed decisions on which college to attend.
Nicholas Massimino (12) says, “I plan on going to the admitted student day for Ohio State, because I got admitted there recently.”
Massimino is currently considering attending the University of San Diego (UCSD) or Ohio State.
He adds, “I want to go to the admitted student day for both schools, and make sure I really enjoy the campus, the weather and the people there… I want to directly compare [Ohio State] to UCSD because these college decisions are really hard for me, especially since they’re so similar from an academic standpoint, at least for my major.”
Spring break also marks about one month until AP Exams, which begin at the start of May. This makes the week the perfect time to study for those exams, with a week off from school and little else to worry about.
Rohan Patel (11) says, “This spring break I am going to be studying for all of my AP tests…mostly AP U.S History and AP Physics C.”
Since AP Physics C is no longer offered at Aliso Niguel, Patel is self-studying for the exam and plans to take it elsewhere.
Pragya Singhal (11) says, “[During spring break] I am going to prepare for my AP exams…I am going to be studying for basically all my classes, AP Physics I, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC and AP U.S History.”
Singhal adds, “…especially if you take more APs than spring break is the only time to study.”
With all the homework students are given throughout the school year, and especially nearing AP season, spring break provides a week of free time for students to prepare for their exams. Whether it is traveling far, visiting college campuses, staying at home or studying for AP exams, students at Aliso Niguel each have their own plans for how they are spending the week off from school.
