Aliso Niguel’s beloved PTSA releases information regarding their annual senior scholarship. This scholarship is for students who are pursuing any kind of higher education.
Veronica Yap, the PTSA president at Aliso says, “It’s really our belief in wanting to support students to continue their education.”
Seniors are only eligible for this scholarship if they became PTSA members by Oct. 1 of the school year. Along with that, the PTSA is looking for how volunteerism has impacted the students’ lives.
The application is done online and it includes essay questions and a section for them to tell the PTSA a little bit about themselves. For the 2025 to 2026 school year the deadline to submit the application is April 13.
Yap says, “I would say the only kind of mistake or that students miss is that they don’t realize they have to be PTSA members or they don’t realize that they have to do it early in the year.”
In order to qualify for this scholarship, Yap says, “There’s not a minimum GPA. Our focus is really students wanting to continue their education. You might have a student that doesn’t have a high GPA that has been taking a lot of CCA classes or doing trade.”
She goes on to say, “We really kind of look for commitment from the students to what it is that they’re wanting to pursue. That’s really the goal.”
In order to stand out amongst the other applicants it is essential to show commitment, whether that be at school, at a job or through volunteering.
Typically there are anywhere from five to eight students who receive the scholarship. Last year 30 students applied and only eight received 1,000 dollar scholarships.
The amount of money and the amount of people chosen depends on the donations received. The PTSA matches the donations received for the scholarship, so last year they were able to give a total of 8,000 dollars worth of scholarships.
Ansh Sharma (12), a senior at Aliso, says, “I think getting this scholarship is really important for me because I want to go to medical school and medical school itself has a lot of funds.”
He goes on to say, “Depending on whether I go out of state or if I go in state with a college that has good scholarship, getting the PTSA scholarship will help make sure that I graduate with less debt and student loans.”
For seniors going off to college or university it is very important to get all the funding and scholarships possible, as universities can be very expensive depending on what students want to pursue.
This scholarship is an amazing opportunity to gain some extra funding to pursue a higher education. Many students at Aliso were not aware of these different opportunities offered and all of the work and dedication that the schools PTSA puts in, to make Aliso Niguel a wonderful place.
More information regarding the scholarship information can be found through the Aliso Niguel newsletter and through the PTSA’s instagram page.
