Aliso Niguel High School organized an annual toy drive for the kids in the hospital. Organized by the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation advisors, the toys collected go to the CHOC kids hospital in Mission Viejo.
This toy drive is held annually at Aliso Niguel High School and has become a tradition to which the wolverines pay great attention.
Students are asked to donate new and unused toys for the kids.
Common toys that are frequently donated are stuffed animals, balls and board games.
The toys are a great way to encourage the kids at the hospital to stay strong and motivated. Each toy donated goes to a different kid, and in cases in which a great amount of toys are collected, around one hundred kids will receive these toys.
Students who participate in bringing these toys for the toy drive will receive volunteer hours and points for any organization that they are in.
To encourage the donation of a higher amount of toys, each toy donated to the foundation would equal one hour of volunteer hour and service.
Aliso Niguel students were successful in collecting over six cartons of toys this year.
The toys were distributed the first week of march and the great success of the collection of these toys by the wolverines were greatly appreciated by the kids.
In addition to this particular annual organization, clubs at Aliso Niguel High School, such as the “create for kids” club, in a similar manner show support to the kids at the hospital by sending handwritten notes and cards to CHOC hospital.
Similar to the toy drive, the club shows the support of the Wolverines and is an encouragement to the kids at the hospital.
National Honor Society advisor, Mrs. McClellan, said, “We really did collect a lot of toys of so many different kinds. I have to say I am really proud of everyone who participated. Its really important for everyone to understand that these things really do make a difference. This kind of love does not go unnoticed, and the kids will really appreciate it.”
In addition to Aliso, other schools also participate in toy drives for the CHOC hospital. McPherson Magnet School (Orange), Anaheim Hills Elementary School, Running Springs Elementary School, Travis Ranch Middle School (Yorba Linda), Wagner Elementary School (Placentia) and Hephatha Lutheran Preschool are some of the other schools that support this cause and participate.
One of the students who participated in this toy drive, Ai Kato (11), said, “I’m really glad that there are certain things we can do here at Aliso to show our support and care. Toy drives make it so easy for everyone to participate and show love.”
