Once again, Aliso Niguel High School held its annual dodgeball tournament here at the main gym. The dodgeball tournaments are held around the month of February every year for the kids across Aliso to participate.
Anyone who is interested in playing will need to form teams and sign up for the tournament. The games are held in the main gym during lunch, making it accessible and easy for kids to stop by and watch the games.
Dodgeball is a fast paced team spot where players on different teams have to eliminate each other through throwing balls at one another. The players who are hit with the ball are eliminated and their team will consist of less people. The group with all members hit and eliminated first would lose to the other stam standing.
The dodgeball games are usually played in three different sets and the team who wins the majority will be announced as winner and will move on to the next level of the competition of the tournament.
This year’s six teams included Frosh Soph, The Unas, Team Lewis, Team Kong, Ballers, and The Conquerors.
The six teams played on a schedule, and the winning team moved on to the next level.
Frosh Soph and the Unas played on Tuesday Feb. 10, with Frosh Soph winning and moving to a game with the Ballers of Feb. 18.
Team Lewis and Team Kong competed on Feb.11, and Team Kong moved to the next level, competing with the Conquerors on Feb.17. The winning team was the Conquerers.
Associated Student Body student, Grace Hirakawa (11) said, “I think that these games are such a great way to include everyone. They bring people together and make school fun and exciting. The teams unite students and the competition makes a fun environment for everyone. Games like these at our school show how school is not only about academics and that it is about so much more.”
The dodgeball games usually have a great audience and many students watch and root for their favorite teams. The main gym’s bleachers have been packed with students eager to watch the game and cheer.
Junior Sonia Carey said, “I definitely think that they are such fun games to watch with friends from time to time. I remember that I would go freshman year and it’s fun that it is annual meaning that every year its different teams and games. The atmosphere of the game is very exciting to be in and I enjoy watching sometimes.”
The dodgeball tournaments have been an Aliso tradition for years now and they portray the fun aspect of our school.
