Eight teams composed of dancers and soccer players competed on February 5, 2026 competed in a returning event. Members from Aliso Niguel’s dance team paired up with Aliso soccer players to choreograph and perform a dance in front of a live audience in the school theater.
The night blended two very different teams, creating unlikely friendships and teamwork. The unlikely pairs got along well, which led to the formation of cohesive and smooth dancing performances, wowing the judges.
Noah Kitsu (9), a soccer player performing, says, “My favorite part of this experience was definitely the teamwork that our group had. It was really fun bonding with not only my soccer mates but also the girls from dance. I think it was a really eye-opening experience, and it was nice to be introduced to new ideas.”
The dance team chose to take on this challenge with the boys for not only the enjoyment of the audience but also to raise funds for both of the teams. All the profit from the voting and tickets went directly to the teams. The tickets cost twelve dollars, and each vote costs one dollar. Guests could vote as many times as they wanted for the team they wanted to win.
The eight teams all performed to different songs or mixes: “24-Karat Magic”, “No Sabo”, Hip-Hop Mix, Country Mix, “Mamma Mia!”, Tate McRae Mix, “Lost Boy” and “Greedy”.
Ultimately, the votes were counted, and the places were announced. In third place came the “24-Karat Magic”, in second place “Country Mix” and the winner was the “Lost Boy” group. The Lost Boy group performed a calmer, ballet-inspired routine, in which the soccer boys sported tutus along with their uniforms. The audience went wild for their routine, which had a comedic effect to it.
One member of the “Mamma Mia!” team, Gabriel Toledo, says, “It was so great and such a unique experience, I would love to return and do it again next year. I really like having the crowd hype us up and be able to bond with my teammates.”
There were some difficulties to overcome; sometimes it was hard to get the boys to cooperate with the practices. Many of the girls expressed that they had to reprimand their group mates to focus on the routine they were learning.
The teams also got to wear unique wardrobes, an example of this was the Mamma Mia! Team wearing glittery blazers over all black outfits, which resulted in them winning “Best Outfits”. These wardrobe choices contributed to the humorous night, getting laughs from the whole audience.
One member of the 24-Karat Magic group, Boston Canada (9), says, “My favorite part of the routine was probably the outfits we got to wear, because they were really cool and not something that we would usually wear.”
Overall, the night was a thrilling and entertaining experience for everyone involved. It wrapped up with performances from members of ANHS’ Dance Appreciation team, which was an amazing wrap-up for an already stunning show.
