As flu season is underway Aliso’s very own PTSA is holding a tissue drive to supply the teachers of Aliso with a lasting stock of tissues. The drive was requested by Dr. Mahindrakar due to the large amounts of tissues, hand sanitizer and clorox wipes that the school goes through on a daily basis.
Veronica Yap, the PTSA president at Aliso says, “The purchasing of the tissues, sanitizer and clorox wipes comes out of the school funds. Which those schools find are used for the students and for the teacher and for education.”
In order to stop the use of the school funds for necessities such as tissues the school decided to organize a drive where parents and families could donate.
Yap says, “Honestly, we want the students and teachers to not get sick. But, if they are sick we want them to have the materials that they need, like hand sanitizer. It’s really so that the teacher and the students can have those available so that it does not spread and that they have what they need so that they’re staying as healthy as they can.
In order to figure out exactly how many boxes of tissues needed to be donated, the office manager let the PTSA know the number of teachers so that everyone got an abundance of tissues. The tissues have already been distributed to all of the classrooms and if any of the teachers ever need more tissues they can go to administration where they will find a stocked supply.
Yap says, “Parents were very very generous with their donations. We reached our goal in the span of two days. It was the whole weekend. I sent out an email on Friday and by Monday we had already fulfilled what we had asked for.”
For this tissue drive organized by the PTSA, Aliso truly showed their love and support for the school. Teachers all across campus have shown their gratitude for these generous donations, which are a true staple in classrooms all around the world.
Ms. Zhou, a chemistry teacher at Aliso, says tissues are used daily in her classroom as there are so many people who are sick.
When asked how the tissue drives have helped her she says, “Well, otherwise I would be buying all of the tissues. What I normally do is that I buy a giant pack from Amazon, which is about 35, 40 dollars. That will last me about seven months because of how quickly people are going through tissues right now.”
She goes on to say, “I would like to have that 40 dollars to do literally anything else. It benefits me quite a lot.”
According to one of Aliso Niguel’s trusted teachers, the tissue drive organized by the PTSA has generously helped with teachers expenses and has supported all of the students of Aliso. Now the classrooms will always be stocked up on tissues so students do not have to worry about not having access to tissues or hand sanitizer during class.
