Throughout the year of 2025, music continued to evolve and people were able to go above and beyond with their musical creativity. The Billboard Hot 100 is a chart that has been ranking the best performing songs in America since the year of 1958.
In 2025, six artists reached the top spot for the first time. This selection of artists included Tate McRae, Alex Warren, Huntrix, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.
The animated band Huntrix from the 2025 movie K-Pop Demon Hunters received heaps of attention from both kids and adults because of their hit songs. Their song “Golden” gained over one billion streams on Spotify.
Karla Davila (11) says “I enjoyed the movie very much and I personally think that all of the songs had a catchy tune to them. Also, each song had a meaningful story that was significant to the plot of the movie. I could see why the movie may be overrated but I think that all of the songs deserved to get the attention that they received from the public.”
Canadian songwriter, dancer, and singer Tate McRae also gained a lot of popularity in the past year. In 2025, she released her third studio album, So Close To What. Her album produced the international top ten singles “Sports Car” and “Revolving Door”.
Mcrae’s Miss Possessive Tour started in March and ended in early November. The locations of her tour included places in Europe, North America, and South America.
Many people in 2025 had SZA and Kendrick Lamar as their top artists. Others had Taylor Swift, Drake, and Billie Eilish as their top pick.
Tiger Lilee Flores (11) says “SZA was my top artist because all of her songs have a good vibe and I really enjoy listening to her music. I listen to her almost every day and I love the song “Luther” by SZA and Kendrick Lamar.”
For Spotify 2025, Bad Bunny was the number one most streamed artist globally for the fourth time. His album that was released Jan. 5, 2025 was an incredible contribution to the music world which explores themes of politics and individual identity.
In his recent songs, Bad Bunny reflects on his memories and past experiences. He uses modern sounds to move away from traditional music. He honors Puerto Rican culture and makes a meaningful connection with his listeners.
Emma Esparza (11) says “I like how Bad Bunny’s music can differ from being enjoyable dancing songs to songs that have very important messages. What makes him special is how he speaks out about what he stands for with his music and he uses his platform for good. He stands against the gentrification of Puerto Rico and also the hate against the Latino community. It’s important and meaningful that he uses his platform and music to advocate for his community and for his people.”
Although each and every person has their own favorite songs along with their favorite artists, entire communities are created because of music. Songs inspire listeners to have their own visions and their own ideas for making creative changes in the world.
