CSF applications opened on Jan. 12 and will close on Feb. 2 at 11:59 pm, with new and returning members all required to apply for the spring semester.
Any student who participates in CSF for any three semesters will receive a cord, with students who do it for all six semesters receiving a stole that both can be worn at graduation.
The application process only accepts students who obtain a total of 10 points when adding up their grades from last semester, with each A counting as three points and each B counting for one point. Students can also add one point for each A or B they get in an honors or AP class for up to two additional points.
Students can only add points from up to five of their classes, with C’s not giving any points. Any D’s or F’s automatically disqualify students from applying.
The CSF chapter at Aliso Niguel works hard to help students find opportunities that might have been too difficult for them to find without it.
Shiley Moenzadeh (11), who is the Freshman and Sophomore Grade Representative, says, “I think people should join CSF because we give a lot of different volunteer opportunities, and we also help students become more prepared for going to college and with their college applications. It can also be really beneficial for anyone who wants to be a competitive applicant for different universities because it shows your involvement in the school and academics.”
CSF hosts several college prep events each semester, which include college application and internship help.
The earliest students can join CSF is during the spring semester of their freshman year, so the current CSF application window is now open to freshmen.
Troy Kinney, Assistant Director of Technology for the Aliso Niguel CSF chapter, says, “Freshmen should be excited to join CSF for the [college events] as well as the community service opportunities we provide, and the recognition from the statewide organization, California Scholarship Federation, which gives scholarships to aspiring students every year, such as their very own members.”
Danny Lee (11), an active sealbearer in CSF, says, “I joined CSF because of the many opportunities and resources they provide. I also love going to their fundraisers to support the school.”
Taleiya Gordon (11), who joined CSF her freshman year, says, “For me, CSF is a fun way to encourage me to get volunteer hours.”
To be an active sealbearer in CSF, students must obtain a minimum of 30 points during the semester. Points can be earned through attending the monthly meetings, attending fundraisers, submitting volunteer hours and paying your dues.
Frida Rodriguez (11), an active CSF sealbearer, says, “I think CSF is worth applying because it’s a bit easier to apply now, but it’s also rewarding and it looks good on applications.”
Starting in 2025, in order to apply, students don’t need to add up all their points themselves. Instead, they just need to submit their transcript from the prior semester, making the application process a lot easier for students, especially those who it is their first time applying.
