Jayden Mysin (12), senior captain of the ANHS varsity boys basketball team, impressed everyone by beating the school’s scoring record with 42 points, which has been his main goal this year.
Mysin is a star athlete who has been on the varsity team for three years as a shooting guard with a total of 10 three-pointers, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. From freshman to senior year, he has demonstrated outstanding skill, teamwork and dedication both on and off the court.
Mysin says, “It’s about more than basketball for me. I want to be known as someone who is a good team player and pushes guys to be better. Also for me to be known for my faith and putting God first.”
In addition to his success in athletics, Mysin prioritizes being a diligent student as he is a scholar athlete, which is a title earned when varsity athletes maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. He has managed to maintain this title through all of his years on the varsity team even with all of his other activities and busy schedule.
“As a student athlete, [the] student always comes first. It’s important to focus and give designated times to studying and working out for a good balance,” comments Mysin.
Despite having a packed schedule during basketball season, Mysin navigates through it steadily as he knows which sacrifices to make and how to manage his time effectively, all while still putting in his best effort.
“My parents pushing me from the start and being able to rely on my faith to get me through the hard times has really allowed for my athletic achievements,” he says.
On top of being a two-year varsity captain and a great scholar, Mysin is the co-president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He states that his faith is a huge part of his success academically, athletically and as a person in general. He emphasizes that above everything else, he wants to be known and recognized for his faith and his love for Jesus.
His goals for the team this year include going undefeated and winning the league title, winning the CIF championship and having an overall fulfilling season together.
In terms of the future, Mysin has different options and routes to consider. But one thing remains the same: his faith and devotion to God.
“Honestly, I’m just relying on the Lord to guide me wherever He wants me to be, because I know that wherever I end up will be a part of His will,” he comments.
Throughout his time here, Jayden Mysin has accomplished many incredible things and demonstrates good leadership and character in all his activities.
When asked for advice for future athletes, Mysin says, “Practice is key. The more work you put in, the better you are going to be; the more shots you shoot, the better shooter you are going to be; so no matter what, just keep putting the work in.”
