With over 100 Christmas movies being released every year and students getting into the holiday spirit, they have varying opinions on which Christmas movies they have approved as holiday staples.
From cozy rom-coms to action and thrillers, there is a wide selection of Christmas movies that fits everyone’s holiday mood. Whether their favorite movie is based on childhood memories or family traditions there is a Christmas movie out there for everyone to enjoy.
Amy Vazquez (10) said, “My favorite Christmas movie is ‘Christmas Chronicles’, because when I was younger me and my family used to watch it together, so I kind of grew up liking that movie.”
Many students and teachers gravitate more towards Christmas classics such as “Home Alone” and “Elf”.
Saige Braddock (11) said, “My favorite Christmas movie is probably ‘Home Alone’. I like both the first and the second one because the plot is really good and it’s just so funny. I love all the actors that are in it and yeah, I just think it’s a great movie.”
Ms. Zhou, a chemistry teacher says, “The first one I can think of is ‘Rudolph’, it’s just because it’s a classic like everyone knows ‘Rudolph’.”
Jayden Jahanzeb (11) said, “‘Home Alone’ because it’s funny and there’s multiple.”
Throughout Aliso the Christmas movie that seems to be the most loved is “Elf”, people pride the movie on how funny it is and how much they love the main character Buddy Hobbs, and the actor Will Ferrell.
Mrs. Anderson, an english teacher says, “‘Elf’, the spirit sends such a positive message, I remember when it came out I started dying laughing. I could watch it over and over again, I cry every time I watch it, it’s a timeless classic.”
Kenzie Schafer (10) said, “‘Elf’, because it’s really funny and it’s a classic.”
Ms. Terhardt, a history teacher says, “‘Elf’, because it’s funny and I like the main character and how happy he is.”
Mrs. Haller, a spanish teacher said, “‘Elf’, I love the plot and I love Will Ferrel, it’s a feel good movie.”
According to Shiley Moeinzadeh (11), everyone should add “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” 1966 version to their Christmas movie marathon this year.
Moeinzadeh said, “It’s a Christmas classic with a very important story line that people nowadays should know. It’s perfect.”
While the majority of students and staff at Aliso love a good classic Christmas movie, some people love the idea of a good rom-com to uplift their Christmas spirits.
Mrs. Sepe, a Spanish teacher said, “‘Love Actually’, it’s such an upbeat movie.”
Audrey McMenamin (10) says, “‘Love Actually’, because it makes me believe in happiness and life again, it’s a comfort movie. Everyone should watch that movie at least once.”
Iva Khomenko (10) said, “I like ‘The Holiday’, it’s a 2000s movie where two girls find each other on the internet and switch houses for Christmas, one lives in the UK and the other lives in LA. I really like this movie because I like cities, and it just has this Christmas vibe, and also I love that it’s a Christmas rom-com.”
Aliso has a very diverse group of staff and students with a variety of different upbringings and lifestyles. Movies are one of the things that brings people together to all enjoy a single piece of film. Film is a powerful way to spread important lessons and provide comfort for anyone who may need to hear it, they just need to take the time to listen.
