Spotify Wrapped 2025 caused many different debates and discussions amongst the students at ANHS. Wrapped is a fun and interactive way for users to see a recap of their listening history over the course of the entire year. This year’s Wrapped dropped on Dec 3. Many users usually await this moment the entire year to watch their personal listening journey unfold in one highlight and look back on all the unique stories and connections behind each and every song and artist. It is also a way for people to connect with others as it is common to share your Wrapped results on social media.
This year, Spotify introduced several new features, including a listening age, racing graphics and a listening archive. These new additions caused very mixed reactions across campus as students shared their thoughts. While some students said that the new updates were more engaging, others disagreed and felt that they took away from the personal touch that has made Wrapped so special and popular throughout the years.
Victoria Vasquez (10) said, “I thought the club that they put you in was a little strange though. I also liked how it had the files that showed you your listening history.”
Naomi Christian (10) had a very different opinion regarding the listening archive feature as she noticed it being AI.
“I didn’t like how they used AI for the new files feature. I don’t think they should have put in the feature at all if they were just going to use AI on a platform that calls for a man-made art,” said Christian.
Students also debated the “music age” segment. The new feature estimated a listener’s age based on the music they streamed most throughout the year.
Vasquez shared, “I thought that the age thing was interesting but I know a lot of people that didn’t like that specific feature.”
A common complaint that seemingly arises every year regards accuracy. Many listeners said the data Spotify Wrapped provides reflects their year overall but not their current tastes which can oftentimes be frustrating for students who switched genres or listened to different artists in the late year. This makes their personal Wrapped results seem less accurate.
Christian commented, “I think my Wrapped is accurate to summarize my listening history for the year overall and not what I currently like which is why a lot of people are unhappy about it.”
Vasquez noted, “There is an artist who was on my Wrapped that I don’t really listen to now and I don’t like him anymore.”
Despite some negatives, they did enjoy the 2025 Wrapped and noted that there were many enjoyable features that were not on previous ones before.
Christian added, “ I really liked the racing feature.”
Overall, while opinions varied, students agreed that Spotify Wrapped 2025 fulfilled the entertainment and engagement it promises every year. New features like the racing animation and listening archive were exciting and interactive ways to reflect on your listening patterns.
