Girls Have Goals is a club that helps girls focus on finding different careers that they may not have known existed. The club helps girls learn the skills they need for certain jobs in the future such as how to get interviews, what is the salary of certain jobs and how to make the desired amount of money.
The club focuses on everything girls will need for college and future careers. Each month the club focuses on a new goal that they try to work towards. Throughout the 2025 school year so far the club has been reviewing different careers.
In October, the club went over the criminal justice system and all the possible careers that girls could enter within that line of work. Throughout November, they plan to focus on topics related to medicine.
The club president Iva Khomenko (10) says that the club is not only an informational club, but also a safe space for girls to ask questions they might not have the courage to ask most of the time.
“A lot of my friends ask me what careers are available, so we try to spotlight different jobs that are not usually well known so people can have a better idea of what they want to do,” says Khomenko.
The club was established this year by President Iva Khomenko (10), Vice President Victoria Vasquez (10), Secretary Cassidy Deal (10) and Treasurer Zahra Arbab (10). Mrs. Anderson is their club advisor and oversees all of their meetings.
The club holds meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, where they review their past agenda and make a presentation for the new month’s career focus. They also suggest extracurricular activities that are helpful for certain careers.
The club’s end-of-the-year goal is to help all of their members gain a better idea of what they want to do in the future and what steps they need to take to get there.
In order to make the club appealing to new people, they try to make everything pink and girly which according to Khomenko brings in mostly girls. Anyone is free to join the club, but most of their members are girls because they mainly focus on helping young women enter the careers that appeal to them.
The club has an Instagram page where they post about their monthly goals and about different careers. The account is @girls_have_goals, which also links to their Remind account, where students can receive updates about meetings. The account was made to spread their ideas not only to their members, but also to anyone who is interested and may not be able to attend meetings.
The club also offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities to not only their club members but anyone who wishes to volunteer.
“I joined the club to explore careers, the club helps me by providing me information about the careers I may want to pursue in the future,” says member Thea Prei (10).
Girls Have Goals is open to anyone who wants to join or learn about careers, and it will continue to help girls throughout the year.
