The California State PTA is having a bear contest where they ask that students and families of California enter name ideas to name their bear mascot. The names must be submitted by Nov. ten.
The person who submits the winning name will receive a visit from the bear mascot, along with a school celebration hosted by the school’s PTA team.
A few Aliso Niguel students have pitched their name ideas. Becca Yong (10) believes that Paddington is a perfect name for the California PTA bear.
Audrey McMenamin (10) said, “The PTA bear should be called Haven because the PTA gives the school a haven to thrive and make school fun because they support the school events.”
While Ivanna Khomenko (10) does not have a name suggestion, she says, “I think that the bear should reflect family values. To show that California has this strong sense of community, and the bear should reflect people’s happiness.”
McMenamin said, “You can probably call the bear unity too because the California PTA and the local schools’ PTAs provide a safe place to be united.”
While the name of the California PTA bear has yet to be released, the California state PTA believes that the name will be fun and creative, and can not wait to make the bear a true member of the PTA family.
With the addition of the new California state PTA bear mascot, the PTA hopes to bring students and families in the community together with the bear as a model for students.
Matthew Kamrava (11) said, “I would name the bear Fimal Stick because it is unique and oddly memorable. The name also reminds me of a name a wise old bear would be called.”
When going onto the website of the naming the bear link, from the California Sate PTA Instagram it presents a form where one has to fill out their first and last name, their email address, the name of their school’s PTA, the address of the school’s PTA, the name that person suggests for the bear and the reason why they believe the name fits well for the bear. If the person submitting the form is under the age of 18, they must check off the check box confirming that they have the consent of a parent or guardian.
On the form to suggest names for the bear, the form reads, “Meet our new California State PTA bear! This friendly bear will travel across the state, shining a spotlight on the incredible work of our PTAs and reminding us that we make a difference Today, Tomorrow, and Together. Before the adventure begins, our bear needs a name, and we need your help! Share your best name idea below and tell us why it fits our bear and the spirit of California State PTA.”
The PTA hopes that with the welcoming of the bear mascot, students and families all around California will be reminded of the hard work the local PTAs contribute towards families and schools in the community.
