Students and staff at Aliso Niguel High School transformed the classrooms with their colorful and creative costumes on Oct. 31, to celebrate Halloween. The hallways were filled with laughter and spirit, and decorated classrooms emphasized the vibe of the day.
From popular movie characters, to athletes, to “Labubus,” there was no costume you couldn’t find on campus. Students love to embrace this holiday and reflect their personalities, or just favorite characters.
Karla Davilla (11) said “I liked seeing the invincible costume. It was funny.” Davilla enjoyed the laughter she was able to get out of the day from everyone’s unique ideas. For the weekend, Davilla dressed up as Wanda and Chucky.
The integration of cosplaying as specific characters truly embodies the depth of the students at Aliso Niguel. During the day, you could turn down the hallway and see your favorite character from a show.
Jasmine Alavi (11) said “It was really funny how the teachers coordinated costumes based on their department.” For example, the main office all dressed up as inflatable dinosaurs which students described as shocking but hilarious. Alavi herself did not dress up because it was too cold out and her costume had shorts.
Alavi also loved how much effort people put into their costumes. She said, “I spoke to a girl who said she spent four hours hand glueing rhinestones onto her costume.” Hard work and large amounts of effort is what makes these costumes at Aliso Niguel so special.
Paulyn Navaraa (10) said her favorite costume of the day was when she saw a furry. Navaraa did not dress up because she thought “no one would do it and didn’t even know you were supposed to.” Next year, Navaraa knows she will definitely dress up to celebrate the exciting day.
Teachers and staff joined in on this exciting day, by coordinating costumes or just showing up as something funny and related to their subject. Ms. Torres dressed up as a goat, completely random but very funny for the students to see. This proves that the excitement and Halloween spirit isn’t limited to kids.
Students emphasized pop culture, by dressing up as trending characters and toys. There was even a Labubu onesie, which caused giggles across the school. Students weren’t held back to just the classics, they branched out to unique costumes.
Some students just threw on some animals ears and called it their costume, while others went all out from head to toe. Even in contrast of effort, they both still prove the immense culture and silliness of the campus on Halloween.
Even people who didn’t dress up still joked by saying they are dressed up as themselves. Mrs. Bhaskar specifically, said that she is dressed up as Mrs. Bhaskar. This made many students giggle because technically, a teacher is a costume.
Everyone at Aliso Niguel is involved in the tradition in one way or another, showing that all the students and staff take great pride in this memorable day. The participation is universal, and it proves that Halloween is one of the most important days of the year for self expression and joy at Aliso Niguel High School.
This fellowship between students and teachers, embracing themselves, allows them to connect. Some costumes are recognizable to many, while others need an explanation, but then they are loved.
As the final bell rang, students laughed in the hallways together and enjoyed candy they had gotten throughout the day. This ended another memorable and exciting Halloween at Aliso Niguel High School.
