Apple has revolutionized the technological world throughout recent years with new phones, tablets, watches, and earbuds. Recently, Apple has struck again, releasing their newest line of iPhones: iPhone 12, and the first mini.

“Apple today unveiled iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini with 5G technology, ushering in a new era for the world’s best smartphone.”

The Oct. 13 statement released by Apple revealed that the new iPhones would support 5G technology, which would enhance the performance of the new smartphones. The new technology could maybe give Apple products an edge over their competitors such as Samsung and Android. However, other companies have also been using 5G technology in their new products.

Along with the support of 5G, Apple introduced several new features that could potentially provide an advantage over other competitors.

According to Apple, “The newly designed iPhone 12 models feature expansive edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays for a brighter, more immersive viewing experience, and a new Ceramic Shield front cover, providing the biggest jump in durability ever on iPhone.”

With these new improvements, Apple also advanced their dual-camera system within the new smartphone.

However, with the new iPhone 12 came extreme controversy. When purchased, the phone does not come with a power adapter. Many were confused about this decision, but Apple explained their reasoning.

“Apple is also removing the power adapter and EarPods from iPhone packaging, further reducing carbon emissions and avoiding the mining and use of precious materials, which enables smaller and lighter packaging.”

According to Apple’s statement on their commitment to the environment, they believed that removing the power adapter from the box will reduce the amount of materials used to make the package. This reason satisfied some Apple users, but many were livid about this decision.

According to Markets Insider, “Apple sees $81 billion in market value erased as it unveils its first 5G iPhones.”

On the day of the phone’s release, this decrease in market value was a 4% decrease, an extremely large amount when it comes to Apple’s market value. This great decrease was largely due to the public’s reaction to Apple’s decision to remove power adapters from boxes. Apple’s decision had good intentions, but it received a great amount of backlash, which hurt the company and affected the stock market.

Apple has once again broken the internet with their new product. Apple hopes that the new advances and technology in the iPhone 12 overshadow the backlash that the iPhone 12 received.
