As AP exams quickly approach and students prepare for their finals, it is important for test takers to understand the school protocols regarding AP exam arrivals, dismissals and approved items in the facility.
Arrival time for all morning tests is 7 a.m. and for afternoon tests, students must arrive at the designated test-taking location by 11 a.m. Students who arrive late to check in may be denied access to the exam and no refund will be given.
This year, the dismissal process for AP exam test takers has been modified to accommodate the high volume of AP test takers at Aliso Niguel and assist the attendance office.
Mrs. Wood, the AP exam coordinator at Aliso Niguel says, “The new policy we have created for the dismissal of AP kids will help enable a steady flow of test takers to take their exam and do good, without having to worry about going to class before or after the test.”
Mariam Taheri (12), an AP student, states, “I’m taking three AP exams this year and I think the new exam dismissal policy is really beneficial for students who have finished the test and want to leave right after because they are burnt out. I also think that the new procedure helps the attendance office because they don’t have to process as many calls from parents.”
Asal Flodius (12) says, “I remember last year it was hard to get my parents to call me out of all of the periods I would be missing for my AP exams and I got marked tardy and absent for a couple of the classes that I missed due to the tests. I think this new dismissal policy will help students not be as stressed out during exams and allow them to focus on doing well on their tests, instead of worrying about the classes they will be missing.”
Along with the new and improved dismissal process, Aliso Niguel is also implementing a new no-tolerance policy for cell phones inside the test-taking facility. According to the official College Board policy, cell phones and other devices including smart watches, personal computers or tablets, fitness trackers, timers, cameras, headphones and recording devices will no longer be stored in the test-taking facility. If a student brings a device into the facility, it will be promptly confiscated and can be retrieved in the front office following the exam.
During AP exam weeks in May, students who fill out the dismissal form and have it signed by a parent won’t have to attend classes before and following their exams. In addition to the leeway that is being granted by the attendance at Aliso Niguel, students taking exams also won’t receive a penalty for late homework if they are gone for testing, according to many teachers.
Students who will be taking the AP exams in early May can look forward to a refined and efficient dismissal policy and a clear set of rules that must be followed to ensure the success of Aliso Niguel’s Wolverines.
