Along with watching the highly anticipated Super Bowl face off of the Kansas City Chiefs versus the San Francisco 49ers, viewers got to enjoy an amazing halftime show led by Usher.
Usher is a songwriter and dancer who has been in the industry for around 30 years. He has won eight Grammy Awards and has had nine number-one singles. Many can say that he is accomplished and is fit to perform at the Super Bowl.
This year’s Super Bowl occurred on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Along with the 65,000 seats available at the stadium, Usher’s halftime performance was broadcasted to over 100 million people worldwide.
After the first two quarters wrapped up with the score of 10-3, the 49ers leading Kansas City by seven, everyone was excitedly awaiting the live performance by Usher. Usher performed a total of 14 songs that lasted a total of 12 minutes, some well-known songs being “Turn Down For What,” “OMG” and “Love in this Club.”
Usher also brought on stage some guest performers, like Alicia Keys. She appeared first sitting at a bright red piano playing “If I Ain’t Got You” and later played “My Boo.”
He also brought up H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil Jon and Ludacris to perform for his last five songs.
Usher’s performance was spectacular with flashing lights and bright props. Based on the impressive reaction from the audience and broadcasters, most seem to be satisfied with how the show went.
But how do the people back home feel about the show?
After talking to some football enthusiasts and casual watchers there is an equal bias about the performance.
Some say that the show was not very “hype” and was rather boring.
Jaydon Yang (10) says, “The Super Bowl halftime show was not good, but Alicia Keys made it better. The song choices were not fit for the game. And also what was bro doing on roller skates?”
Jaydon was disappointed by the overall performance of the game but found it funny that they were skating around the stage.
Another disappointed viewer, Isobelle Savage (11), commented, “I was very disappointed in the halftime show. It did not pump me up as I thought it would and made me want to turn it off.”
Many feel like the show did not match the vibe of the game because the performance was very nonchalant and laid back whereas in the actual game, the tensions were significantly higher.
Although some feel as though the show didn’t live up to the hype, some feel the opposite.
Urva Pawar (10) says, “The halftime show was not the greatest because I was goofing around during it, but from the couple minutes that I watched, it was for the most part pretty good.”
Austin Ceiley (10) also says, “I was looking forward to the halftime show because I’m a big Usher fan and it did live up to the hype. It was especially good when they brought out the guest performers and it overall was great, except for the part where the 49ers lost.”
Though the halftime show led by Usher only lasted 12 minutes with many guest performers, most were divided on whether it was the right choice of artists and songs to be presented at Super Bowl LVII.
