The Spring Season is a time of growth for many of the sports teams participating this year as they strive for their goals this season. This includes the girls lacrosse team, who have many games ahead of them, including their next league game against San Clemente High School on Mar 19, as well as the eventual goal of competing in the notorious California Interscholastic Federation League (CIF), that have some of the toughest teams in the area of Orange County.
Currently, the team has had a rough few games, with them having an overall record of 1-3, with them competing against Beckman High School, Esperanza High School, Woodbridge High School, and Orange Lutheran High School. However, all of these games were Non-League, and they still have the chance to play well in the upcoming league season.
When asked about how the season is going, Coach Honda, the head coach of the girls lacrosse team, said, “I believe that our record does not reflect how we are as a team and how the season will be since we played some tough teams that are not in our league.”
While the season has been a little rough, the girls are not discouraged. They still have many opportunities to improve and apply what they have learned to the more important league games they have from March to the end of April, with them playing against noteworthy opponents like Tesoro High School, San Juan Hills High School, and Trabuco High School.
Coach Honda is still very confident with her team as a whole. She still thinks of herself as “Confidently optimistic with what this season will bring for us, with each year people graduate and give opportunities for others to shine. I hope that this year we can do the same.”
The Girls Lacrosse team still has a lot of growing to do, with each of them getting used to the intensity and cadence of the sport as well as how each of their teammates plays and interacts with each other on and off the field, while continuing to learn and grow stronger as a team and as people.
Much of the sport of Lacrosse is physically and mentally straining on the athletes, having to avoid injuries from overexertion and fatigue. However, much of the training and bonding that the team does helps remedy these challenges in order to prepare the girls for the rest of the season they still have ahead of them.
With a long season ahead of them, this sport presents challenges that the team must learn to overcome and learn from to hone their skills as well as many opportunities both to grow and prevail in the goals each athlete has set for themselves this season, whether that be academically or physically. Hopefully, they are able to be reminded of the many fellow students and parents who are fully supportive of them as they continue to push through this season.
