Aliso has over a hundred different clubs on campus, with so many clubs, students are able to explore a multitude of different interests.
The Film Appreciation club was formed this year by Nima Etemadi (10), where students can come together to enjoy different types of films.
While Etemadi is President of the club, their other officers are Vice President Jacob Antonio (10), Treasurer Jaxton Cope (10) and Secretary Luke Miller (10).=.
The club meets on the first Thursday of every month during lunch, under club advisor Mrs. Wright in P9.
Etemadi said, “I formed my club because I’m passionate about film and I wanted to share it with others.”
His goal is to create a space for others interested in film to expand their knowledge of film and explore new concepts and ideas.
The club often watches silent films to help improve the media literacy of club members. At their last meeting, they watched “Once Upon a Time in the West” a 1968 directed by Sergio Leone.
Maya Tata (10), who attended this meeting says, “It wasn’t something I would ever put on myself, but it was interesting to see how they directed older movies.”
Etemadi’s goal is to introduce club members to film as a part of their history.
At meetings, the club discussed classical filmmaking and “different eras, perspectives and artistic styles,” says Etemadi.
The club explores how different films utilize different mediums to their full potential, going beyond just watching films as a source of entertainment.
Miller says, “students can come to analyze different films.”
As Secretary of the Film Appreciation Club, Miller is responsible for filling out club minutes and other forms to keep the club up to date.
Tata says, “I went to the club meeting just to be inside for lunch, but I had a really fun time and enjoyed learning more about film.”
Shiley Moeinzadeh (10) says that “[she] really enjoyed the club meeting, it was a quiet place where [she] could watch a movie during lunch”
Moeinzadeh was excited to go to future meetings and learn more about classic films at the next Film Appreciation Club meeting.
This is Etedmadi’s goal; he wants to bring light to the subtleties of film making and create a space for any and all students to learn more about film making.
Etemadi plans on continuing to teach students about film next year by continuing his club.
