Disneyland’s Holiday Festivities

Disneyland’s Holiday Festivities

After missing the holiday season last year, due to being closed during the pandemic, Disneyland Resort has returned with its fan favorite holiday offerings. These seasonal offerings include brand new food and drink, ride overlays, seasonal entertainment and festive decorations across the ressort.

Seasonal favorites such as A Haunted Mansion Holiday and It’s A Small World Holiday have returned, and both are seasonal overlays exclusive to Disneyland.  Characters in the parks have also begun wearing their winter clothing which often includes shawls or sweaters decorated for the holiday season.

During the holidays, Disney also decorates the entire resort. Each land has unique decorations themed to that land. Main Street has the most decorations, containing a giant Christmas tree and thousands of lights across the Main Street shops. The castle is also decorated in many lights and is covered with snow and holiday decorations.

Katherine Melody (11) comments, “The best part of Disney during the holidays are the decorations and lights because at night it looks beautiful.”

Disney also holds special entertainment for the holiday season. Special holiday fireworks, “Believe…In Holiday Magic” are held, as well as the Christmas Fantasy parade. Special performances are also held during the Festival of Holidays in Disney’s California Adventure.

The season also brings brand new, limited-time food offerings. In Disney’s California Adventure, Disney holds a Festival of Holidays. This event consists of various food carts with unique holiday themed food. It also includes different locations to learn about different cultures and their holiday traditions. Disney also included reimagined ideas of hot cocoa, gingerbread and holiday takes on their classic churros.

Corrie Denton (11) gushes, “I love all the fun foods they have like hot cocoa and the new churro flavors.”

Makena Mosher’s (11) favorite thing is also the food, mentioning, “My favorite thing about Disney during the holidays is that the bakery always makes these huge gingerbread cookies, and every year I buy them with my mom.”

This year, Disneyland introduced a new Holiday themed after-hours event called Merriest Nites. The event centers around a themed party in each land with different decor to match the character hosting the party. Special food and drink exclusive to the event were offered, as well as unique photo opportunities.

The holiday season at the Disneyland Resort will last until Jan. 9 of 2022. A reservation is still required to enter the park and must be made prior to the day of arrival.
