Aliso Niguel High School dress code states that genitals, buttocks, breasts, and stomach must be fully covered with opaque fabric. 

  It makes sense for a person’s private parts to be fully covered because it provides a safe environment where students can learn. However, the rule on exposed stomachs should be revisited. 

  Majority of teenage fashion, primarily for girls, includes cropped tops. Crop tops are shirts that are shorter than the normal length for a shirt. Crop tops are a violation of the school dress code. 

  Although it would be easy to simply not wear crop tops, there are not many choices for girls. Popular clothing stores such as Tilly’s, Brandy Melville, and Hollister mainly sell crop tops. 

  I know from personal experience that it’s really difficult to find a nice shirt that is not cropped. I typically compromise and buy shirts that are not intensely cropped, as do any other teenagers.

  Even though I understand that having a fully exposed stomach may be distracting, a 2 to 3 inch sliver of skin will not distract anyone. 

  I believe that the dress code, in regards to exposed stomach, is quite unfair due to the fact that crop tops are now quite popular. The dress code should be revised so that crop tops are allowed so long as they do not expose a person’s entire stomach.
