JoJo Siwa Comes Out

 Social media star, singer, and dancer, JoJo Siwa has had quite the 2021 so far, as she has confirmed she is part of the LGBTQ+ community, and introduced the world to her girlfriend Kylie, all in the span of a couple of weeks. 

  Speculation with a TikTok Siwa posted in late January, where she danced to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” Her fans congratulated her in the comments, and questioned  her whether or not she was officially coming out. Later the same week on Jan. 22, Siwa posted a photo on Twitter, wearing a t-shirt gifted to her, reading “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.” The following day Siwa confirmed that she is in fact a part of the LGBTQ+ community during an Instagram live. 

  During the Instagram live, Siwa stated “I always believed that my person was just going to be my person,” she continued “If that person happened to be a boy, great! If that person happened to be a girl, great!”

  The response to Siwa coming out has been overwhelmingly supportive. Celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian West have shown their support for the star on social media as well. While some homophobic parents claimed there children would no longer watch or support Siwa, she does not seem to be bothered and has responded with a simple “Okay!”

  After she publicly came out, Siwa made a guest appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. There, she revealed to the world that her girlfriend encouraged her to come out. “I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world,” said Siwa on the Tonight Show. 

    While she didn’t reveal her girlfriend’s identity on the show, she later revealed it in an Instagram post. Her girlfriend’s name is Kylie and they recently celebrated their one month anniversary together. 

   Siwa’s coming out is an inspiration to young LGBTQ+ kids, and shows them that it is okay to be themselves. Her message of positivity and inclusiveness will continue to spread throughout her career, and will inspire others to follow in her footsteps.
