Making an impact inside the classroom and out, Mrs. Schwied, a dedicated and supportive Algebra 1 teacher, is the reason why so many students are confident in their math skills. Her passion for teaching is uplifting to her students, having a very positive effect on her students.
Mrs. Schwied has been a teacher for 15 years, and this year is her fifth year teaching at Aliso Niguel High School. She was also a coach on Aliso’s Girls Water Polo for a few years. Throughout her years of teaching and coaching, she has made a deep connection with her students, helping them move on with their athletics and studies with confidence.
“My teachers and coaches throughout my education motivated me to become a teacher.” Mrs. Schwied says. “The influence and support they provided truly inspired me to become a teacher myself.”
Mrs. Schwied makes an effort to give her students the same love and support that her teachers and coaches gave her. She creates a comfortable environment in her classroom, leaving students feeling motivated and with assurance in their math skills.
Through real world examples or taking the time to give students one-on-one support, Mrs. Schwied makes sure that her students feel supported and prepared.
Benita Alirezaei (10) says that “Mrs. Schwied is the most down to earth and supportive teacher that I’ve had here at Aliso Niguel High School.”
Mrs. Schwied’s approachable nature makes it easy and comfortable for her students, as well as her past students, to ask questions and get the support that they need. Alirezaei had a positive experience in Mrs. Schwied’s class, and that will stick with her as she continues on with her education.
Another reason why students feel so comfortable in Mrs. Schwied’s class is because of her sense of humor, lightening the mood in the classroom and bringing a smile to everyone’s face. Her “jokes of the week” give students a chance to connect with each other and try to solve the joke, bringing some more joy to everybody’s day.
Mrs. Schwied enjoys being a teacher, and she is dedicated to being able to help students with their mistakes in a lighthearted way. Her creative style of teaching helps students understand different concepts in math in a new and easier way.
“My favorite part about being a teacher is M.A.T.H.: Mistakes Allow Thinking to Happen.” Mrs. Schwied states. “When we make mistakes and learn from them.”
Mrs. Schwied believes that making mistakes are an integral part of learning, and her goal is to help her students fix those mistakes. With her helpful teaching methods and supportive intentions, she gets to meet this goal and help her students. This approach builds a safe, supportive classroom environment, where students feel comfortable with taking a risk. This boosts her students’ confidence in math and leads them to enjoy it a little bit more.
Mrs. Schwied’s positive attitude, dedication to her students and willingness to be there for them is what makes her such an amazing teacher. Inside of the classroom and out, her impact on students will be felt for years to come.
