The Aliso Niguel Surf team had their most recent meet against Tesoro High School on Oct. 17 where they unfortunately took losses in both Long and Shortboard.
At 7 am, Heat one of the boys shortboard started with Guarin Bruni (12), Zeke Gonzalez (12) and West Maxon (12) placed third, fourth and fifth out of six. They earned nine points while Tesoro gained 12.
Heat two of the boys shortboard had Aliso gaining another nine points while Tesoro got 12 but with Ryder Demichele (9) placing first, Ian Huber (11) in fifth and Porter Ellsworth (12) in sixth.
Heat three was Girls Shortboard where it wasn’t much different. Eight points for Aliso and 13 for Tesoro. Maddy Chao (12) in second, Nicole Fortuna (10) in fifth and Camille McKeon (12) in sixth.
Heat four was the boys longboard with Gonzalez in second, Gerlach in third and Maxon in sixth for a total of 10 points against Tesoro’s ll.
Heat five was the girls longboard Chao in first, Fortuna in fifth and McKeon in sixth for 9 points.
With all heats added up for the Boys, they finished at 28 against Tesoro’s 35 and the Girls ended at 17 against Tesoro’s 25.
Aliso surf had their first meet of the season on Oct. 1 against San Juan Hills High School where the boys won but the girls lost.
Heat one and two boys shortboard scores a combined 24 points. Heat 3 girls shortboard takes 9 points. Heat 4 boys longboard takes 11 points while heat 5 girls longboard scores 10.
The meet ended in the Aliso boys at 35 while San Juan Hills was at 28, the girls unfortunately were at 19 to 23.
Just two days later on Oct. 3 they had a rematch where San Juan Hills blew the Aliso Boys out of the water scoring 40 points over Aliso’s 23. Though the Aliso girls also put up a tough fight, they had the same exact score from their previous meet scoring 19 to San Juan Hill’s 23.
Oct. 6 was surf’s third meet of the season with it being the closest scores so far. The Boys shortboard scored 22 points to Laguna Beach’s 29 but in the Long Board they made a comeback of 13 to 7. This totalled their score out to a devastating 35 for Aliso and 36 for Laguna Beach.
For the girls both scores for the short and longboards were 9 for Aliso and 11 for Laguna Beach ending at 18 to 22.
Oct. 8 would be Aliso’s first of their two matchups against Tesoro with another very close scoring meet. Fortunately the Aliso boys scored 32 points against Tesoro’s 31 taking a well deserved win. For the girls they unfortunately ended with 17 points to Tesoro’s 24.
Oct. 10 was the team’s first meet against Capo Valley where they performed well. The boys had 44 points against Capo’s 18 while the girls tied at 19 points.
Chao comments, “I am hoping that the whole team will do well especially because the majority are seniors so it’s out last year”.
With six games far, Aliso surf has just five more meets left in their season. Though the record for the boys is three wins and three losses and the girls is at five losses and one tie, they still have high hopes for their next five meets.
