This year for the fall semester play, the Aliso Niguel Theater Company has chosen to do Metamorphoses, a play originally written by Mary Zimmerman that premiered in 1996.
The play follows ancient myths by Ovid, which uses a central pool of water to stage various Greek and Roman legends, like King Midas, Orpheus and Eurydice.
Metamorphoses is a retelling of multiple Greek myths, centered around change and told around a body of water. Cast and crew alike are excited to show off their hard work in this upcoming production.
For the Aliso Theater Company production, the students have been tasked with creating a pool on the theater stage. The company members have been working overtime in order to create the immersive experience for this show.
Shiley Moeinzadeh (11) is the production manager for this show; Moeinzadeh is excited for the “Heavy themes of this production.”
Moeinzadeh says, “This show has given me so many different learning opportunities. Every show is special because of the people who work on it, but all the hard work from cast and crew is really making this one special. Everybody has just worked really hard this year”
This production has been able to avoid challenges regarding the pool that’s front and center on the stage by purchasing a stock tank.
Moeinzadeh says, “The heating and filtration were the largest challenges, as we wanted to ensure the comfort and safety of the actors at all times.”
She went on to talk about how excited the whole crew is for audience reactions.
Despite all the long hours, cast and crew are still brimming with anticipation for this play.
Sydney Schaarsmith (12) says, “[Metamorphoses has] been a great show, it’s interesting incorporating the Greek myths into contemporary concepts. I think the technical crew does a good job of conveying the scenes of the playwright.”
Students have also been anticipating this upcoming play, coming off the back of last year’s musical production.
Matthew Kamrava (11) says, “I can’t wait to see the play, I heard it’s going to be so good.”
Kamrava went to last year’s musical, saying, “I went to the SpongeBob musical… the production was good.”
Jayden Jahanzeb (11) says, “I’m really excited to see the play because I heard there’s going to be a pool. I also heard the actual main actors are really good… they seem really nice.”
Outside groups have had to respect the Theater company’s schedule and move technical events held in the theater, because of the pool on stage. The National Honors Society’s induction has been moved from Oct. to Nov. 13 to accommodate for the production.
The pre-show will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, open to ASB, Newspaper, Administrators and teachers. Opening night is Thursday, Nov. 6, with closing night being Saturday, Nov. 8, the Aliso Niguel High School Theater Company will finish with a total of four shows.
Tickets went on sale Sept. 29 and are available for purchase on the Aliso Niguel Theater Company’s website.
