On our campus, many teachers find joy and comfort in decorating their classrooms for Halloween. By teachers putting up Halloween decorations, students and other staff members become influenced to get in the Halloween spirit, which creates a sense of community and appreciation.
Mrs. Tinker, who teaches AP Statistics, Algebra II, and AVID for sophomores, set up her desk for the Halloween season, having little ghost figurines that hang to the front of the desk, pumpkin plushies all around, and a witch-themed hat sitting on the edge of the desk. Mrs. Tinker usually decorates her classroom every year for Halloween.
Mrs. Tinker says, “I like to decorate my classroom because it brings the Halloween vibe to the learning environment. Most of the decorations are from Target and Nordstrom Rack. My favorite Halloween memory is when my best friend and I would walk around our neighborhood and this nice old man would give us candy and rootbeer. My least favorite memory is when the teenagers in high school would scare us.”
The Halloween decorations in the classroom of Mrs. Alvarez are magical and the students who learn in her educational environment acknowledge the hard work she puts into setting up fun decorations.
Students give thanks to the teachers who want to make the classroom a little more exciting, especially in high school. In elementary schools, it would be typical to see Halloween decorations because the students make the decorations themselves in engaging activities to learn about teamwork and creativity.
Tigerlilee Flores (11) says, “Halloween decorations set the perfect vibe for fall. I love them and they really motivate me to carefully observe the small details of different classrooms. None of my teachers have any, but I think if they did, I’d look forward to their class ten times more. It brings the magic of Halloween back to when we were in elementary school.”
Looks like Gabi Mugiya (11) is in the same boat as Tigerlilee Flores. She too does not have any teachers who have Halloween decorations in their classrooms. “I enjoy Halloween decorations in classrooms because they make the surroundings less boring and more fun and festive,” Gabi says.
Ms. Erhard is an English teacher on our campus and she has a few Halloween decorations in the corner of her classroom. Gracie Smaw (11) shares, “I think Halloween decorations are fun to have in classrooms. I think it’s a good thing because they bring some festiveness to the educational setting. My favorite Halloween memory is spending time with my friends.”
