As a crisp chill fills the air, an exciting selection of movies have been released for overjoyed audiences. Our nearby movie theaters are prepared to showcase a thrilling lineup of new cinematic stories just in time for fall.
The latest addition to the famous Conjuring series is Michael Chaves’ work of The Conjuring: Last Rites. This film is officially ending the movie series that has been based on the true cases of Ed and Lorrain Warren, focusing on the story of their final case as paranormal investigators.
Throughout the various plots of the Conjuring films, there has always been a constant presence of a demon. There may be two conflicting endings to this story, and fans of this horror movie franchise feel very unsure of what will happen to the beloved couple.
Emma Esparza (11) says, “I’m expecting this movie to be really good with a lot of jumpscares because I’ve been hearing some great reviews about it. I absolutely love horror movies, so the more jumpscares, the better. My favorite character would have to be Lorraine Warren because she is a strong female character who plays a crucial part in all of the films.”
Another movie addition that will be soon available in theaters is Wicked: For Good, directed by Jon M. Chu. This final part of the musical saga will be concluding the fantasy story of Elphaba and Glinda.
With the talented Cynthia Erivo playing as Elphaba and the gifted Ariana Grande playing as Glinda, many young fans are expecting a spectacular end to this magical and heart-warming story.
The Black Phone 2 will be arriving at local theaters in the Aliso area on Friday, Oct.17. It is a sequel to The Black Phone, directed by Scott Derrickson. Starring Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw, those who watched the original film are definitely overwhelmed by the adventurous story of the sequel.
Another popular horror movie franchise will be releasing a new television series, based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel It. The show is called It: Welcome to Derry and the plot focuses on the haunting journey of the infamous clown Pennywise throughout the 1960’s, serving as a sequel to the two previous films.
The director of It: Welcome to Derry is Andy Muschietti, who was a previous co-director in the earlier It movies. This series stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, along with many new child actors who play the roles of the kids who live in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. This series will be free to watch on the streaming service HBO Max starting on Oct. 26.
Karla Davila (11) says, “My favorite character from the first It film is Richie because he was the funniest character. I hope this new series is suspenseful and scary. I don’t want them to tone down the suspense and I’d like to learn more about the lore of Pennywise. I hope these new characters have different personalities from each other.”
