Orange County Student Section (OCSS) is a countywide competition between the schools of who can provide the best school spirit via their student sections.
It has become a privilege for schools to win “Student Section of the Week”, but one question always remains; who runs OCSS?
OCSS has a student-dominated staff, with several different specialized positions. This year there are 13 students from all around the county including Aliso Niguel’s, Lucas Dalby.
Lucas Dalby is a sophomore at Aliso Niguel High School, who is a two-year member of ASB, who is currently working as the Video Commissioner.
Dalby has dedicated hours to create fun, upbeat and creative videos to promote our school — especially the student section.
Dalby’s work did not go unnoticed, as he was scouted to be a member of the OCSS staff as their Videographer.
Jared Baloloy, one of the heads of OCSS, shares, “Lucas is one of the best videographers that we’ve had since the launch of OCSS in 2019. It’s pretty mind-blowing that he’s just a sophomore, and that he’s already doing work at a high professional level. The way he presents himself is not only energizing to our staff, but all the schools he visits with OCSS. He’s one of the first staff members we’ve had specifically from Aliso Niguel, and I’m truly honored that I got to bring him on board to the organization. He’s a truly talented student that inspires others to put forth their best work. Since joining our staff, he’s helped contribute to thousands of views on our Instagram alone, engaging our OC community each day through our mission statement.”
Dalby’s high technical skills with a camera aren’t just used on Aliso’s game days, and he travels locally to help promote other schools within the county with his videography.
Dalby is currently the youngest member of the staff this year, but he is working as professional and efficient as an adult.
His videographer job entails weekly school visits around the country to do “FNL Spotlight”. Within these spotlights, schools are highlighted and documented for their school spirit and student sections.
After getting clips of different schools, Dalby heads straight to editing. During the editing process, Lucas spent about seven hours editing each video, which ultimately brings him so much joy.
On top of his OCSS job, he manages to find time for ASB and gives full dedication, “Being a part of ASB and OCSS is definitely a big commitment, however it is very much worth it. I would say that they are both quite similar, for I do the same job for both. However, the differences of working in a big county-wide community vs. in my local school community truly make these 2 experiences unique” said sophomore, Lucas Dalby.
Lucas Dalby is an extremely dedicated student to his academics, ASB and his beloved OCSS position.
With countless hours of filming, editing and reviewing, Dalby is setting himself up for a successful future with his immense skill.
Dalby is a star in the making and helps the growth of school spirit not only at Aliso, but all over Orange County.
