From Sept. 22 to Sept. 26, assistant principal Mr. Brosamer at Aliso Niguel High School spent his last week on campus before retiring. His leave marks the end of his 37-year-long working career in education.
Mr. Brosamer worked as one of Aliso Niguel’s assistant principals alongside the other assistant principals, Mrs. Wegner and Mrs. Hosseini. He helped oversee many things on campus including but not limited to academics, discipline and student support.
Mr. Brosamer’s career in education began in 1989, when he started teaching in Palm Springs before moving to Cerritos, where he worked as a middle school history teacher. He joined the Capistrano Unified School District when he began to teach at Newhart Middle School. Later he helped open up Don Juan Avila Middle School before moving into administration at Aliso Viejo Middle School, then at Aliso Niguel High School. He started working at San Juan Hills High School before eventually returning to Aliso Niguel for his final years.
“I came back here for the last couple of years because I used to work with Dr. Mahindrakar and wanted to do so once more,” Mr. Brosamer said. “I was always planning on working for around 37 years so it is about time I retire.”
During his years at Aliso Niguel, Mr. Brosamer became a familiar presence at school events especially the sports games as he helped supervise them.
Mr. Brosamer states, “I absolutely will be missing the students and working with the teachers and staff. I’ll also be missing the football games and other sports games even if I technically have to work and supervise them. Aliso has been my home for around 25 years, so I’ve been in this community for a long time.”
Aliso Principal Dr. Mahindrakar, who has worked with Mr. Brosamer in the past, reflects on his service to the Aliso Niguel community and the impact he will leave.
“Mr. Brosamer worked here for almost 20 years and he definitely had a huge impact. Students and staff alike have seen him around as he is out and about, he is very responsive so some of the things students may not see is that Mr. Brosamer, like other assistant principals, traditionally has a certain role and his role is to oversee safety and facilities,” says Dr. Mahindrakar. “He’s really good at noticing if something is broken, or if a light is out or the AC is not working. He is quick to make sure it gets fixed as he knows how important it is to students and teachers alike to have a clean, safe and working environment.”
Dr. Mahindrakar also recalls memorable moments with Mr. Brosamer, such as working at an event where there was a dunk tank. Another memorable moment is when Mr. Brosamer helped lead the geese off the driveway safely.
Dr. Mahindrakar states, “When the geese first started to arrive, I took a funny picture of Mr. Brosamer trying to gently corral them off the driveway, and I have that picture on my bookshelf. Mr. Brosamer has always had a good attitude, a good demeanor and a good sense of humor. His care and attention to the facility will definitely have a lasting impact.”
With enrollment currently lower, the school will not be filling the vacant spot left by Mr. Brosamer’s retirement, for now the campus will continue with only two assistant principals instead of three.
