Aliso Niguel High School has an athletic trainer’s room on campus for student athletes to receive treatment and recovery plans. Aliso Niguel has a long time athletic trainer named Jess.
Previously the training room was located inside the boys locker room, with access to the pool deck. Some girls were uncomfortable with the former location.
Students can get treatment plans for rehabbing injuries through the training room. Now the Training room is located in the front entrance to the girls locker room. The only remaining way to enter the girls locker room is through the side entrance.
Students can get many things to help injuries: tapping, ice baths, stim treatment, get ice packs, work out plans, do cupping and many other things to help with recovery.
Due to the new location of the trainer’s room, female student athletes and PE students no longer have access to the front entrance of the girls locker room.
Varsity athlete Amanda Elkins (10) says, “It was kind of a useless move, now I can’t go into the locker room through those doors.”
Where the room used to be, it could be accessed without impeding the boys locker room. However, as it was moved to the girls locker room, it now restricts access to the locker room.
While it’s a bonus for the female athletes to no longer have to walk through the boys locker room or pool deck to reach the trainer’s room, it is now more of a hassle to reach the locker room.
The new trainer’s room is significantly bigger than the old room. The new room has three sections, allowing more space for storage and more space for multiple athletes to receive treatment. The old room was just a single section with only two tables, leading to having a backed up line of students waiting to see the trainer.
Aliso does not have a full time athletic trainer, only a part time one. Due to this, having a larger trainer’s room allows more student athletes to receive help or guidance in the limited time they have with the trainer.
Shiley Moeinzadeh (11) says, “It’s annoying that the room was in the boys locker room to begin with and now we can’t even get into the girls locker room.”
Whether the room is either the boys or girls locker room, it is a place that student athletes can go to for help recovering from injuries.
