The ANHS Game Design Club is a new club at Aliso Niguel High School this year, focusing on the concept of game design and computer/media programming. Club members will be able to build games and other media by coding at all levels, and participate in a “Game Jam”, or a game design competition at the end of the year if enough people are feeling up for the challenge. Don’t worry, because this club is open to everyone of all skill levels and preferred media programming, whether you’re a programming master or have never even seen a line of code!
The Game Design Club is held in Ms. Anderson’s room, room 301. The meetings for this club are held on the last Thursdays of every month, though that is subject to some change, so make sure to join and check the Remind.
Bianca Ong Ante, a Junior at Aliso Niguel, is president of this up-and-coming club. She is a passionate programmer and game designer with a desire to create a welcoming and helpful environment for others with an interest in programming.
Bianca says she has always “wanted to help people understand the topic of game design and to see others show their creativity through games as well.”
Game Design is a very interesting, albeit often frustrating, topic, especially for people who are new to it. Which is why she is very excited to have created this community for coders and will be providing tips for game design, such as which engines to use, how to publish games, and many more things that will be a great jumpstart to anyone’s future careers!
Believe it or not, any type of program is enhanced when you have outside opinions or even other people to aid you along the way. Hence, the importance of having a crowd of other opinions right around you, such as in a club.
Bianca, president of the club, also mentions that “this club will help students think more creatively and help them build teamwork skills as they make games with other imaginative minds.”
However, Bianca also realizes the importance of taking your time when developing media, especially games. Therefore, there is no need to rush or stress about making a game by the end of the year. This club was established for educational purposes and fun, so anyone can feel free to join, no matter what they think their future career will be. Design is undoubtedly a great skill to have for anyone’s journey.
